HR
Meanwhile, co-star Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, is in the midst of negotiating a rich new deal that will pay him more than $20 million as he will become the new No. 1 on the call sheet.
...
Sources note that contracts for Lincoln and Reedus were up after season eight. Unlike in the past, AMC was slow to announce a season-nine renewal as the series was negotiating a larger pact with now-former showrunner Scott M. Gimple. Reedus and Lincoln closed new deals at the time to return for season nine, with the former now looking to cash in given the latter's pending departure. Sources say Reedus has already begun work on season nine in Atlanta as he negotiates his new pact, which, while it isn't a done deal, is said to be worth north of $20 million.

He'll need to say more than 25 words an episode. It's not going to work.

I'd still watch the show even without Rick. I don't think any one character is so integral to the story that them leaving messes everything up. It hasn't only been RIck's story so far. Maybe, they'll replace RIck and Maggie with good Neegan. Then, they can rebrand the show as Neegan and Daryl go to White Castle. They can get high and then fight zombie-Neil Patrick Harris trying to get some sliders.

I think that was always a necessity. Hand drawn characters usually don't get pregnant mid season, or decide to leave the comic to star in an off Broadway production of Waco: The Musical.

I think they should kill off every one with the exception of Daryl & Eugene and reboot the series as a new Odd Couple

Or they could reboot Small Wonder by keeping Carol and bringing back Zombie Sophia.

Actually this is not a bad idea. If they write off Rick, they can totally break away from the comic book and/or loosely follow it. This would give them a larger amount of artistic freedom to take the series in different directions.

Not a fan of losing Rick, but it is a creative reboot. And that's a pretty bold idea overall. While still keeping a huge fan favorite.

I wish Netflix owned this thing and would do about 10 walking dead shows for international markets.
Walking Dead Brazil
Walking Dead Australia
Walking Dead Japan
Etc...

Just a bunch of localized versions where they could really explore different ideas.

Well, I think that killing off Carl proves they are not tied down to the comics.

Plus I read somewhere that Danai Gurira may be leaving at the end of this season as well due to her star rising with Black Panther..

So potentially we can see the following people leave the show this year.
Rick, Maggie, Michonne, and Daryl (His contract is up as well and no official reports of him signing back up)

I meant as a viewer. There's a lot of gnashing of teeth by some who have read the comics. I'm glad I'm not in that group.

Have you heard of this new show by Frank Darabont? Worst premiere ratings ever:
In the key advertiser-coveted demographic of adults under 50, Nielsen says the series notched a 2.5 rating, half of last year’s 5.0 rating and the lowest-rated premiere ever for Walking Dead (the series debuted in 2010 with a 2.7 rating). It’s a jaw-dropping decline, and one which undoubtedly has AMC execs reaching for the Maalox this morning. And yet, it’s also not entirely unexpected in an era of massive linear audience declines for both broadcast and cable networks.
I watched. It was...meh.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

That’s literally the entire point of the comic it’s based on.

Anyway....I enjoyed it up until Maggie was recast as Negan.

I enjoy every episode right up until someone does something completely stupid because it fits what the writers want to happen on the show. Yes, Maggie as the new Neegan is pretty annoying and out of character for her. I won't say that she was wrong in doing it, though. Totally deserved.

Phenomenal last Rick episode. And somehow they managed to NOT kill the series for me, and insane as it sounds got me interested again.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.

It's 34 bowl victories.

After all that, the gave him the Glenn and treated him to a flying dumpster? I mean really.

I'll voice my dislike for what they did and how they're moving forward from here. I'll finish this season, but I'm not sure I have it in me to care about this show anymore. The writing is not what I've come to expect for a show on this channel.

EDIT: And of course there's going to be a Walking Dead movie:
Spoiler:
Lincoln will not appear on The Walking Dead TV series again as Rick Grimes but he will reprise the role for a movie, which may be a TV-movie on AMC or one which gets theatrical release (details are being locked down), telling the story of Rick's disappearance from Alexandria and where he went aboard the helicopter with Jadis. While details remain under wraps, the early word is there will be a sci-fi element to the film(s) and it could explore aspects of the apocalypse which Robert Kirkman's never have.

I liked it. I didn’t want him to die. He’s probably the only character other than Carl that I really really didn’t want to die. There is no Walking Dead universe without either Carl or Rick, So thank goodness he is out there somewhere.

Well...that was...ummm...so....er....

I can’t decide if it was good or bad, to be honest. It was certainly something I didn’t expect. If you’d told me earlier that this was a theory for how Rick would end up, I would’ve said they aren’t that cheesy. But they did it. They really did it.

Also, from the previews, when the hell did they decide zombies are now predators and if you muddy yourself into a schwartzenegger lather, they can’t see you?

I think it ties into the Whispers stuff mentioned above (I'm not current with the comics) but during the mud scene I am nearly certain I heard "where did they go..." in a zombie voice.

That went exactly as suspected. Rick is a B and doesn't die. I believe it was also Loren Cohen's last episode as well.
Smoove_B wrote: Mon Nov 05, 2018 9:56 am The writing is not what I've come to expect for a show on this channel.
It was exactly as I have come to expect. People do stupid things that are completely out of character for someone in a zombie apocalypse, let alone someone as badass as Rick Grimes' group, because it fits some contrived story that isn't plausible and there's a perfectly good, simple, plausible story that my five year old could come up with which they could use that doesn't involve someone acting in the dumbest way possible to get from point A to point B. That is what I have come to expect and this episode absolutely delivered on that. I still enjoyed it. I just hate when they do it (which is all the time lately).

I haven't read the last two years of the comics yet (waiting on the compendium), but I understand that the Rick storyline is somewhat canon.
