Define rehash. You still travel around, meet new races and build up an alliance, but all of the races are new and have their own stories.

From that trailer it looked like it is going to follow the same beats. I hope I’m wrong.

Not the same beats.

That said...does it broadly follow a Hero's journey type of story? I would say so. Origins introduces players to Earth in the late 21st century. It's a world in some turmoil that is now having to face imminent destruction at the hands of a very powerful, very old space empire that sees the humans as an emerging threat. What should we do?

The last game was about 25 years ago. I'm ok with it revisiting some of the same territory, story-wise. At this point in my life, I've seen and read most major sci-fi plot themes, so what really matters for me is details and execution.

I keep booting up Space Rangers 2 in anticipation to hold me over as it is the closest thing I can think of. After the 300+ hours I have played it's just not working for me anymore.

I am totally fine with going and playing this right now.

Brad, please let me know in what direction I should throw my wallet and send me a Beta invite ;)

Only a few more months left.

Hopefully the OO gang will find it a pretty compelling RPG when it's done.

Personally, when I watch QA play, I like to track how many people play as a "white hat" or a "black hat". When the goal is to save Earth, it's amazing what people will rationalize doing.

I will be interested to hear about space combat -- how much of a role it plays, and how RTS/arcadey it is. The videos I've seen make it look fast and frantic, which could be a deal-breaker for me. The exploration/RPG elements look appealing.

It plays like the original which was pretty RTS and arcades.

I love making life-or-death choices in space. Star Control hit that trigger and this looks like it's the same. It'll be a great way to come away from Battletech.

I like the ship setup screen and the overhead view. I think the only problem I have with it at this point is the silly little kiddy like planet stuff on ground. Id prefer a Starflight on Sega Genesis type thing where its overhead and you land and scan for minerals. But maybe this part will grow on me .Heck who knows I might love it once I try it. The rest looks really fun.

Also I cant find the schedule for any Stardock show tonight. Anyone know the time and where to watch?

Damn. I ran across a twitter thread the other day ripping Stardock (both for this and other things) and supporting these guys. There was much support, but I don’t know about $2 million worth of support. Ouch. Sorry to bring R&P in here, but man does our legal system need revamping if a Trademark and/or Copyright issue is anywhere near this level of money.

Creators are not always owners. Trying to raise funds now that StarDock has a release date smacks of looking for leverage. Pay us or we'll spend $2 million to prevent your product release.

Pretty shitty situation. The best solution would have been to find a way to do both projects. But it's not clear they even have a team.

What I can say is that what they do is not random. It's more akin, to borrow a popular show analogy, to Westworld. You, the player, are the butterfly effect in this universe. You are the only random element in our...harmony.

That popped into my head .I dont want to break anything. I want to enjoy your game. But me being the chaos in the harmony in a game might be a temptation :)
