It's not really an assumption, Trump lost the popular election by 3million votes. Turnout was still relatively low compared to other countries.

If I had to rank the priorities for Democratic campaigns this year, it'd be:

1) Presidential year Democratic voters who don't vote in midterms
2) Female Obama-Trump or third-party voters
3) Non-voters who would vote Democratic if they vote
4) Male Obama-Trump or third-party voters
5) Regular Trump voters

I thought about Red Dawn the other day. If it were remade now the Russians could probably win if they didn't team up with Cuba or Latin America and just sent the military hailing from Northern and Central Russia. The teenage Wolverines in the MidWest would find themselves fighting with the older men in militia groups.

34 years ago, a KGB defector chillingly described America today

.. President Putin is a very experienced former KGB officer. He has both the know-how and the intelligence to carry out very far-sighted and ingenious operations. We don’t know his endgame and neither do we know how much of his KGB training he still employs, but in light of current events, there may be a way for us to get a deeper understanding by studying the words of Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov, a former KGB agent who defected to Canada in 1970.
Bezmenov made the point that the work of the KGB mainly does not involve espionage, despite what our popular culture may tell us. Most of the work, 85% of it, was “a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare.”
“What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American to such an extent that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.”
“As I mentioned before, exposure to true information does not matter anymore,” said Bezmenov. “A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures; even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him [a] concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it, until he [receives] a kick in his fan-bottom. When a military boot crashes his balls then he will understand. But not before that. That's the [tragedy] of the situation of demoralization.”
Once demoralization is completed, the second stage of ideological brainwashing is “destabilization”. During this two-to-five-year period, asserted Bezmenov, what matters is the targeting of essential structural elements of a nation: economy, foreign relations, and defense systems. Basically, the subverter (Russia) would look to destabilize every one of those areas in the United States, considerably weakening it.

Trump today:
Trump: “Thank you very much everybody. We’re doing very well, probably as well as anybody has ever done with Russia. There’s been no President ever as tough as I have been on Russia.

Did he mean to say "enchanted" instead of "tough"?

I’m taking this to mean expanded nuclear weapons and more cyber attacks, since he modified “terrorism” with “stopping”, but did not with these two.

Has this been mentioned yet? The GOP voted to NOT increase election security funding yesterday.
House Republicans on Thursday approved a spending bill that excludes new money for election security grants to states, provoking a furious reaction from Democrats amid a national controversy over Russian election interference.

The spending bill passed 217-199. Democrats’ bid to add hundreds of millions more in election spending was rejected 182-232 — as Republicans were unmoved by Democrats floor speeches decrying the funding changes and chanting “USA! USA!”

At issue is a grants program overseen by the federal Election Assistance Commission and aimed at helping states administer their elections and improve voting systems; Democrats want to continue grant funding through 2019, while Republicans say the program already has been fully funded.

Republicans argued strenuously in floor debate Wednesday that states had plenty of money from prior congressional allocations to spend on election improvements. But Democrats accused the Republicans of abetting President Trump in his refusal to take a hard line against Russian President Vladimir Putin at this week’s summit in Helsinki.
Sigh...

EDIT: Some additional info here
House Democrats took turns Wednesday requesting a vote on an amendment to fund election systems protection, saying the money is needed to “prevent Russian interference” in future elections.

The procedural moves from Democrats come ahead of a vote on a Republican-led spending bill (HR 6147) that would zero out election security grants that help states to fortify their systems against hacking and cyber attacks. The Election Assistance Commission is funded at $380 million under the fiscal 2018 omnibus spending bill enacted earlier this year.
If I'm reading this correctly, they're voted to eliminate any federal funding to help states protect voting systems, beginning in FY19 (October 1). Jesus.

Trumpkins: sure the Russians hacked our elections, and that's a good thing

I mean yeah, sure it's the next logical(ha!) step in the line of thinking that goes 1) trump couldn't collude with his own campaign to 2) trump didn't break any laws on to 3) anyone would've done it and finally 4) Clinton wouldn't have won either way so it's irrelevant.

Sure wish this was a link to The Onion but...no.

Jesus.

Zarathud: The sad thing is that Barak Obama is a very intelligent and articulate person, even when you disagree with his views it's clear that he's very thoughtful. I would have loved to see Obama in a real debate.
Me: Wait 12 years, when he runs for president. :-)

I fail to see how Alvin and the Chipmunks are going to sway a corrupt GOP, but hey, you are closer to DC than I am.
