So stessier, what's your current prediction for the Patriots final record? I'm guessing something like 1-15?

Please - they play the Bills twice. I'm hopefully they will be able to get a split.

2-14

The Bills might have something to say about that.
Do the Bills have a new coach with the players almost in Coup, with a franchise tag choice of a guy whose always on the IR and... yep, still is...

Week 1 may have been the worst Lions performance from top to bottom I have ever seen. How low do you have to go be the bottom of the Lions barrel? I normally make it two weeks before deciding if I'm giving up on them. I couldn't even make it one full week this year.

We were embarrassed by the Jets in week 1 at home. What do the Jets have to hang their hats on?

But because his helmet came off they gave the ball to the Bills at the one yard line. Shouldn't it still be a safety but enforce the roughing penalty on the kick?
No. The Bills player didn't pick up a fumble. The ball was still considered in the live kick state (the original dude didn't get possession because he was tackled as the ball was arrived, which should have been a penalty). So you've got a live ball in the end zone which is where the Bills player obtained possession. At which point his helmet was torn off and the play is over instantly, as a touchback. Then the addition of the 15-yard for a helmet to skull hit delivered by an additional Charger, because the refs didn't whistle the play dead.

Of course, whether or not the ball should have still been considered in the live kicking state, I do not know. I'm also trying to figure out how a clear fumble by the Chargers, with no view of recovery under the pile, but where the Bills came out of the pile with the ball, was somehow called Chargers ball on the field, making it impossible to overturn. Odd.
But why the one yard line? If there was a penalty wouldn't it end up on the 16? And if it was a touchback, why not the 25?

I believe touchbacks for non-kickoff plays still go to the 20. So the penalty would be assessed from the 20 yard line, giving the Bills the ball at the 35 yard line. Which is where they got the ball.

Wow - the Pats traded for Josh Gordon. Gave up a 5th round pick. If he isn't active for 10 games, the Browns will send a late round pick back to the Pats.

My brother and I were talking during the Jax game and said that a 5th rounder is as high as we'd go because of everything he brings. I really hope he sees the field. Could be entertaining.

With the Bills season burning down around my ears, as the fantasy owner of one Thomas P. Brady, I endorse this trade.

Schefter is saying the trade was originally for a 6th round pick, but that the Pats didn't have a 6th rounder. They will get back a 7th rounder if he's not active for 10 games.

MRI was done on Gordon this weekend. Reports are it was clear and he is healthy enough to play against the Lions. I would sit him this week so he is at full speed for Miami.

Godon's issue was pissing his career away up his nose, as I recall. Hopefully he can stay clean, because he was amazing when he was on the field.

all of the above, apparently:
According to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, Gordon ran down the list of drugs he has excessively used since entering the NFL in 2012: "I've used alcohol on many, many occasions, Xanax on many occasions, cocaine several occasions, marijuana most of my life, codeine, cough syrup...methazine is very prevalent where I'm from. It's what I grew up using."

I think back to what Brady did with Randy Moss on the team, not saying Gordon is that good but if he stays out of trouble this is a big deal. From the few games I saw him play in he's an elite receiver...but he has to stay on the field.

One thing I’ve read is that one of Gordon’s issues (which likely leads to others) is that he just doesn’t actually like playing football all that much which makes self-motivation hard. If that’s true, I’m not sure how long he’ll last in NE.

Yeah I figure there's probably like a 90% chance that he doesn't cut it, either due to a substance abuse issue, or just him showing up 5 minutes late for a meeting or the like. But the upside of the 10% chance where he takes advantage of this to revitalize his career is tremendous.

My wife got tickets for my son and I to see Saints-Panthers in New Orleans on Dec 30th. Our Christmas present, as my wife said, "He's gonna shit his pants when he opens that present."

Hopefully the Saints have something to play for so Brees will play.

They used to be good. Now they suck. And this proves it:
Variety and Us Weekly report that adult contemporary group Maroon 5 will be the halftime performers at February’s Super Bowl LIII (pronounced “leeeeeee”) in Atlanta, probably because Imagine Dragons was already booked as the NHL’s in-house band.

I enjoyed this line from the Variety report:

While the group is stylistically more similar to recent performers like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars than more controversial ones such as Beyonce and Lady Gaga...

I think I speak for America when I say that we need to up our standards for what passes for controversy in the Super Bowl halftime show.

Anyway, who cares, I’m sure it’ll be like almost all halftime shows, fine and forgettable—except for Jaguars fans, for whom Maroon 5 will play an inextricable starring role in their memories of their team’s first championship.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

You mean someone whose wardrobe malfunction I'd like to see? I like Adam Levine just fine, but not in that kind of way.

Half time is for getting something to eat, getting something to drink, and taking a piss. Who is performing on the field during that time is an anecdote of little interest...unless something noteworthy happens, in which case I'll see it replayed countless times afterward.

Cowboys just got called for that. Perfect form tackle, but the DL “landed on” Wilson as a result of the tackle.

Also, I think everyone knows my general position on rules and what not, and even I’m hating this stupid landing on him rule. There is absolutely nothing that Clay Matthews could possibly do different other than not sack the QB.

No one will care, pointedly least of all me, but I officially quit the NFL today. It's been a long time coming amongst the rule changes involving what is a catch e.g. Calvin Johnson ruling, the revelations around CTE, and, tbh, the utter putridity of the Cowboys over the last 2 the arrow has been pointed down for me on the NFL for awhile. After that play, I just turned the TV off and texted my buddy 'I'm done'. Wasn't even mad, I think I felt more like the guy that's been in counseling for 2 years with his wife and then just realized he didn't want to try anymore. :confusion-shrug:

I am pretty pissed at myself for sticking around long enough to see the Iggles win a SB though. :grund:
