Good Deals on Videos (Blu-rays, UHD 4k, DVDs, cloud, etc)

Post by Enough »

I came late to the HD party and just at the end of last year went from an ancient Sony Trinitron 480i 24 inch screen to a 4k UHD/HDR 49" Samsung KS8000. I always knew there was a big movie fan lurking inside and this purchase has unleashed my inner-cinephile. While most of you probably don't even care about purchasing physical media anymore, I am finding I really enjoy having a hard copy, especially for 4k content (the bit rate from disk is still hard to beat). But in the spirit of inclusiveness, this is a thread for any great movie deals whether physical or in the cloud.

I'll start us off with Fast & Furious: The Ultimate Ride Collection [Blu-ray] 1-7 for $27.99 (street price is around $55-70ish). This sale ends today. The best route is to head over to your local Target/BB and have them price match so you get the $15 in movie tickets cash reward as well (Amazon set doesn't appear to come with it). Sell the online HD codes and you could probably almost break even on this set, heh. Not having seen a single one of these, I am so in!

I'm still seeing Planet Earth II around for $39 on sale, definitely pick it up! This is THE reference PQ for UHD 4k HDR content.

I've never seen any of them either and am extremely tempted. Thanks for point them out.

If you need a great site to sort deals by genre, studios, etc. check out: Blu-ray Deals!

I buy almost all my Blu-rays on sale, and this site is great in that it tracks price history and will tell you if something is at its lowest price. I'd say 90% of my collection has come directly from deals I found through that link.

Argh!! Dammit, I missed the sale while away.. (Only starting to catch up on forum stuff today) This would have been a nice buy, especially since we just bought a 50" 4K TV for the kit hen.. (On sale as open box at Microcenter for $280. Couldn't resist... and since the kitchen is where we do all of our gaming, this will workout if we need to look stuff up online or need to watch tutorial videos, or, the most likely scenario, I connect my laptop to it and use it to run TableTop Simulator.

Looks like the ten cent rentals are happening again (in Deals->10 cent rentals). Maybe it's going to happen every Wednesday? (at least, for a while?)

Well, the vudu deals are dead at this point, but vudu is one of the major digital movie stores (for renting and buying individual movies, along with Itunes, Amazon Instant Video and Google Play)

Google Play has Amityville: The Awakening for free for a limited time.

Also, if you create a Movie Anywhere account, and link two or more of your video accounts to it (Vudu, Itunes, Amazon Video and/or Google Play) you can get Big Hero 6, Ghostbusters (2016), Ice Age, Jason Bourne (2016), and The Lego Movie for free. read about it here. Movies Anywhere makes eligible movies you buy in one store available in all your accounts of those other stores.

Google play is offering 50% off one movie and 25% off one TV show purchase (including complete series, it seems), just click on the banner for them in the play store to get the coupons.

If you have a movies anywhere account, and have it connected up to play and other stores, and the movie is eligible, you can get that movie on to your itunes or amazon or vudu account.

Vudu is selling some recent hits in UHD (their version of 4K) for 9.99. I grabbed Wonder Woman (charges pending), Spider-Man Homecoming, and Kong Island.

So FandangoNow recently joined Movies Anywhere (meaning, once you set up Movies anywhere and connect your accounts, you would be able to watch any eligible movie bought on Fandango through your Vudu, iTunes, Amazon or Google Play accounts. Plus, you can still get those free movies mentioned above)

In addition to that, there are a couple of promotions. First of all, you can get a voucher from groupon for either a $35 (at a cost of $25) or $20 (for $15). Effectively giving a 25-29% off.

In addition to that, if you're new to Fandango, you can use this referal link to get 20% off all your purchases for 30 days (I get 30% off one movie). (mods, I assume referrals are ok, since I've seen them in other threads - if not, let me know and I'll remove it).

Combine these two, and you can get about 45% off several movies (or you can rent a whole lot for 45% off, although those won't transfer to your other accounts). Make sure the movies you buy have the movies anywhere icon if you want them to transfer to your other accounts.

My best source for DVDs is the local pawn shop. Less than $1.00, it used to be $0.75, but they raised the price to $0.89 They must inspect every disc before they buy too because I do, and I rarely find scratches on their discs. I bought the entire X-files series for $4.00 a season.
Technically, he shouldn't be here.

Amazon Instant Video seems to have an unpublicized sale going on, with a lot of stuff going for $0.99. Go to Prime Video, filter to Movies, Purchased and $0-$1 to get a (really, really long) list of stuff (which you will probably want to filter further, as there'll be plenty of stuff you probably won't be interested in).

Some stuff I've found:

Agatha Christie's Why Didn't They Ask Evans?
Cast a Deadly Spell
My Name is Bruce (starring Bruce Campbell)
The Bloody Judge (1970's horror starring Christopher Lee)

Concerts like:
Pink: The Truth About Love Tour, Live from Melbourne Edited
Madonna The Confessions Tour
Also, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, etc.
Puccini: La Bohème (Opera)

There's Shakespeare like:
Great Performances: Macbeth (Starring Patrick Stewart)
King Lear
King John

Also lots of LGBT-interest films, if it interests anyone.

I bought this just now, but I suspect that price is just for the bonus episode or something. Not all of season 11. Still, I'm willing to lose 2.99 on a bet. If this does turn out to be the entire upcoming season 11 in HD...well...WIN!

I paid $29 for the season. If you truly bought the whole season for $3, then you made out like a bandit. (or did you just buy the first episode?)
