I hate the Mighty Ducks. I hate Howard the Duck. I'm not a fan of Donald. Daffy is ok.

But mostly, ducks are stupid. Unless those are Platypus-based mutants, they are off-putting.

In the 90s this could have topped my favorite list. Now that Im old my first thoughts are meh Im tired of the bad human war dead humans all the time. But after watching the video it looked fun and the turn based play seemed faster than other games I dont have patience for. And Dux is cool with the hat :)

... Another brief preview, as they announce they are taking pre-orders now

<--- 1.5 min
Now available for PC pre-order on buy.mutantyearzero.com, the game will be available in a Standard Edition ($34.99) and a Deluxe Edition ($54.99). The Deluxe Edition includes a desktop wallpaper, digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and a digital copy of the Mutant Year Zero pen-and-paper RPG book. Pre-ordering the Standard Edition will give you a three-day head start at launch while pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition gives you the three-day head start as well as access to a Beta version of the game before launch.

“Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is our passion project,” said The Bearded Ladies CEO Haraldur Thormundsson. “It’s the game we always wanted to do and we’re incredibly excited to be working on it. We truly believe the unique mix of turn-based tactical combat combined with freeform exploration, stealth, and story will offer something new and different gamers have never experienced before.”

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is powered by the Unreal Engine and will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 during the second half of 2018. The game is based on the classic Mutant IP that has spawned several popular pen and paper role-playing games since the 1980s, including the current Mutant: Year Zero from Free League and Modiphius Entertainment. The interactive IP rights are controlled by Heroic Signatures, a company owned by Funcom and the Cabinet Group (see earlier announcement). For more videos, screenshots, and information please visit the official website that launched today on www.mutantyearzero.com.

Still interested... I see that the release date is Dec 4, 2018, but I think I might be waiting for some impressions here first.

Damn, it's going to be a busy end of year. Just Cause 4 released that day as well.

Funcom is currently streaming a countdown for something related to the game on their Twitch channel. Whatever they're doing, it should be happening at noon EST tomorrow.

I'll probably end up getting this for the holiday break. I will be home for 16 days in a row and I'll need something to keep me occupied. Assuming I run out of progression goals on FO76.

I'm racist against silliness where it's inappropriate. A few bad duck experiences will make anyone biased against ducks. Did I mention that I hate Howard the Duck? If I didn't, I should have.

So I did mention it.

Good.

With a pre-order it can be a day minus three game. Three day head start with pre-order and it's $28 ($35 MSRP) on GMG.

I neglected to mention that the Twitch VOD at that link also has about an hour of unscripted gameplay, if anyone needs a little help getting down off the fence. :coffee:

I'm in on this one.

If it ends up being what it looks like, a goofy take on Jagged Alliance, then I'm sure I'll have some fun with it.

It can't be any worse than many of the recent attempts to recreate the JA formula.

I'm tooling around with Baldur's Gate and the default character voice sets are just awful (no offense intended to the voice actors or developers, the addition of voices into games was still very much a work in progress. Also it could be that I just don't feel the limited included sets are appropriate for my character), so I've been exploring custom voice sets. Some people are amazing (both the actors and the people creating the sets). Others...less so.

"witty character dialogue" has been on my mind lately and it's clearly a skill and quality matters. Both the acting and implementation. It's also one of the last aspects of a game to get polished, I would think.

Just thought I'd comment as recent experiences have had me thinking about the subject.

Couldn't find if this has been posted before. It's a Eurogamer video from June, 5 reasons we're excited for Mutant: Year Zero - Road to Eden. It has quite a detailed look at how this game is NOT like XCOM. Briefly, in XCOM you have strategic planning, then go off on a mission, the two phases being very different. In Mutant, as you travel across the land and come across some enemies, you can go into a more stealthy mode and start planning your attack, what you're going to equip and where you're going to place your characters. It's kind of cool sounding. Also there are several other aspects, like the size of the combat area and the ability of the enemy to flank you.

Too bad Just Cause 4 is coming out (and I've pre-ordered) as I might be interest in grabbing this game too. Looking forward to some impressions.

Quick impression after just playing the first sorta tutorial part is I like it. Still figuring it out...

Combat is quick once it begins with a lot of movement to flank. I'm sure strategies will develop but it looks like there will be a cool ambush dynamic.

I like the world in which it takes place. I knew nothing about it previously.

I'm playing on hard and I'm really just getting started, but it's... not easy. You circle around to identify and pick off loners with silent weapons then engage with the groups that don't want to separate. The kid gloves seem to come off pretty quickly. You start out with 4hp enemies and 2 stalkers and after a couple fights and some cutscenes you gain a third stalker and have enemies with 16 hp and 2 points of armor and your weapons are still doing 4-5 damage.
