I figured it was some sort of protocol to have the sitting POTUS be the last person seated. But showing up late wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I'm amused by the comments on how the so-called "muslim" Obama was able to recite the creed. You know, I would think at such a public service you would at least try to look like your participating. I don't sing all the hymns when I'm at church but the creed is a pretty fundamental statement of my faith which I happily recite.

Throughout most of the service he looked like a churlish boy who was dragged to church.

Of course he did. All the attention is focused on some dead guy (loser! Dead! I like ALIVE people), and not him. Why doesn't HE get that kind of attention and respect?!

Excepting his own pep rallies of course. But I wonder if deep down, that's not enough for him now. Surely he knows or at least senses how the rest of the world (non-Trumpers) feels about him, and that HAS to sting his ego. His rabid idiots are almost too easy...but getting actual serious folk to respect you....man that would be nice...

I saw some MAGA response about how Trump is a "true Christian" and therefore doesn't need or participate in "human creeds."

I suppose the root claim here is the old fundie one that only the Bible matters and that any outside material (such as the Apostles' Creed or the Book of Common Prayer, etc) is unnecessary and even suspect. Evangelicals are fond of pretending that they base everything on the Bible and only the Bible (forgetting of course that the texts of their Sunday sermons are generally as recent as whatever the preacher pulled from his favorite websites).

Of course this response forgets that Trump claims to be Presbyterian, and that Presbyterian worship services have always included... the Apostles' Creed.

Saw a headline that was something like "all the shade thrown at Drumpf during the funeral" or something like that. I didn't bother reading it, but it did give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Although I hope it wasn't during the eulogies. Making even a part of the eulogies about drumpf means drumpf wins. I wouldn't like that.
