CD ripping software
I actually purchased a CD - first in forever. What ripping software is considered the standard these days? CDex, Exact Audio Copy? I picked up a best of Marvin Gaye to try something totally different from my usual genres.

The Vegas Pro Humble Bundle comes with Sound Forge 12 if you pay more than the average (currently 22.73). Page 61 of the manual covers importing from CD.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Exact Audio Copy is the "gold standard" when it comes to ripping audio CDs, but it only matters if you're trying to preserve the best possible quality (which usually means lossless format). if you're just making mp3 files, it really doesn't matter much what you use.

I used EAC in the past and downloaded it again. You have to get the LAME codec separately. EAC is a little harder to configure, but that is a one time hassle.

Re: CD ripping software
I’ve always used EAC for its error correction capabilities, but that probably isn’t very relevant to a brand new CD. I had it take hours to rip a CD once that was scratched to oblivion. You couldn’t tell if you listened to the FLAC files it produced. It’s the bee’s knees.

And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

Re: CD ripping software
Follow this installation guide for EAC along with these instructions for using LAME with EAC (if you prefer to rip to MP3 instead of FLAC), and you should be good to go.
