Wife in hospital..stroke

Post by Daehawk »

Was afraid this is what it was. They will keep her at least 3 days then no telling how long rehab. Im not sure when she will come home. She is in the best hospital though. Its 25-30 miles away but ours that is 6 miles away is a death trap. I wouldn't go there for a hangnail.

She is really out of it right now from the stroke. right side affected but her mental state is just gone. They said it should improve over the next few days. She cant eat drink or walk. :(

So prayers would really be great from anyone. We appreciate it. I have no idea what to do or how to get along without her by my side. Right now Im home taking a shower and feeding the dogs. Our little chihuahua that sleeps with us all all upset. Had to leave him all night in a cool house alone. He already had shelter anxiety. I have to leave to go back and stay each night and then home then back until whenever. I haven't slept. They aren't really doing anything but lots of test.

I dont get it as she was on a strong blood thinner and yet had a stroke or a couple small ones. Said they were places on her back brain that is where they are. So not talking right or anything. I just dont get it. Or what to do in the future to prevent more. And they cant tell me.

My wife's first stroke some eight years ago was a major one. It was surprising she survived. She was in some 6 weeks before she could come home. Her cognitive ability was lessened and she couldn't walk.
She finally got better enough to come home but I had to help her with everything. After 3-4 months she improved enough she could take care of herself pretty much. I'm talking about her personal stuff like going to the bathroom, eating, going to the potty chair next to her bed.
Anyrate the point is it's probably going to be bad for a couple of months but then she'll hopefully recover quite a bit and be close to her old self. She'll still need some help tho.
Or maybe she'll improve a lot in the next couple of weeks.

She was on a blood thinner and they saw no clot,. So the clot buster would have made to bleed to death from the indie.

Thank you all. I gotta hit the shower but Ill try to re heck this before I leave.

Hoping for the best for you. My dad, whose general health was not good, recovered fully from his first stroke in just a few weeks. So there's a wide spectrum of possible outcomes.

Had rather hoped we were done with bad health news for the year after the Merry Christmas thread (too much to ask for 1 week of no bad news on the OO front I guess).

Wishing a speedy recovery for your wife and good health for you (always important in times like these to take care of yourself).

Im back at the hospital. I was only here a couple minute whrn at 5pm they started and iv of heprin or heperin........said it will clesr any clot. I dont understand why they didnt start it last night or all day today. They knew last night there was no bleeding.

I or they cant really know why or she could have a stroke on a strong blood thinner when without it her entire life she had none or clots. Its just scary and strange.

Her name is Donna and Im Brian.

I asked her nurse why they waited some long to give her Heparin. Either she didnt understand me or I didnt understand her. Shee is very sweet and helpful but is Asian and has a strong accent. I never got a straight answer or one I understood. You would think as soon as they saw there was not a bleed they would give her the strong blood thinner. Which would have beenlastnight instead of 5pm today. Donna got worse between then and now.

As for the Tpa or tsomething...the clotbuster. Two main things stopped them giving that to her when I btought her in. One we went to bed friday at 7am in the morning and got up at 5 pm. She was fine at bed time but they said it could have started anytime during the sleep so was out of the 4 hour window. Second they said since she was on Eliquist a strong blood thinner that giving her the clot buster could cause her to bleed internal and bleed out and die.

So basically they waited until her brain places showed up and then started this thinner today. Seeems weird to me butIm not the dozen of docs and people that have came through

And taking care of myself seems out. Ivenot slept since fridsy. Ive tried and tried. I nodded offtwice here tonight holding her hand but instantly I jerked awake. I am afraid to sleep. I go home to feed the dogs and I get upset and start bawli g seeing how she left everything when we left. Then I have to leave the little dog alone and hope he isnt cold, hungry, hurt, or house broken into or on fire. And I rush back thinking Ill sleep here atthe hospital but nope. They try to tell me to rest but I dont think they get it....ormaybe itsjust me...ormeandmy wife. We,re never apart. Always together everywhere 31 years. Alo e inthe car is weird as hell and hurts.

This wifi is driving me insanier ☺

She is resting since about 7pm she has had 2 good sleep periods broken buy an hour or so of fidgeting and not getting comfortable. I...and maybe its just me.....but I some slight betterments. Her words are a little better to my ears. She also knew her age. And lastly Ive had to tell her to keep her iv arm straight all night and once she repeated "keep your arm straight" in a smartypants way. haha.

But on the flip side she doesnt know the month or her birthday. Also still drowsy sedated like and stuck in bed and cant focus on my hand and tell me how many fingers. Ill take the other things though.

She is only on fluids and heparin. Thank you all again so very much.

31 years so far. We could do more than a 1000 more easy. We are soulmates. As Gump said 2 peas in a pod 😀

Heres where you can laugh....I call her my little one. I picked it up from STTNG with Troi and her mother. She calls me booty. Has since I met her. Sometimes I call her her original nice from childhood...punkin or sometimes punkin bug.

All I can do is hope and pray. Sometimes I fall apart but I do mybest to keep it all good around her.

Thanks all.

my aunt is going through a similar thing with my uncle (who just got his first chemo treatment) - she is a wreck because she feels she has to be the strong one and be there 24/7 for him. wellll it's just not possible, no matter how much you wish it could be so. if you're not taking care of yourself, you eventually won't have the physical strength or mental acuity or emotional stability to be there for her. so caring for yourself IS important. (i told my aunt this, and i hope she remembers.)

Sorry to here about this my friend. My wife and I will be sending you positive vibes.

Additionally, I'm a nursing director on a rehabilitation unit in a large hospital that is arguably the best stroke hospital in this part of the country. I see and manage these things on a daily basis.

If I can be of any type of help, please let me know. Send me a private message if you'd like.
