This one surprised me only because he had survived so much.

Also, Dolphins fire Gase.
Denver fires Joseph.
Arizona fires Wilkes.

Another fun offseason to be a Steelers fan. Antonio Brown and Big Ben seemingly have had a falling out. Brown went full diva and skipped meetings and practices, which is why he didn’t play in week 17. Now he is reportedly requesting a trade.

Fun times!

After Tomlin’s press conference today, it sure seems like Antonio Brown has played his last down as a Steeler.

ESPN
The Arizona Cardinals have hired former Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury to be their next head coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Kingsbury will receive a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth year. A news conference to introduce him is set for Wednesday.
...
Kingsbury was fired by Texas Tech on Nov. 25 after seven seasons, including six as head coach, and was hired by USC to be its offensive coordinator Dec. 5. Kingsbury also interviewed with the New York Jets for their head-coaching vacancy.

In Kingsbury, the Cardinals get a coach with a reputation for having success with quarterbacks. Kingsbury, who won the Sammy Baugh Trophy as the country's best collegiate QB while at Texas Tech in 2002, has coached Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes, Denver's Case Keenum, the Giants' Davis Webb, the Chargers' Nic Shimonek and former Browns first-round pick Johnny Manziel.

At Texas Tech, Kingsbury's team ranked fourth in offensive efficiency in the two full seasons when Mahomes, the breakout Chiefs star, was the starting quarterback. Only Oklahoma (first), Clemson (second) and Western Kentucky (third) were ranked higher in that span.

I'm pretty excited. I've watched 4 Rams games this year and seen several close ups of Sean McVay. As such, I've heard I'm a strong contender for the Dolphins HC opening!

I was hoping Fangio would stick around and actually win something (like Buddy Ryan did a lifetime ago). Now I suppose we'll wait another decade for a team to make some noise.

I'm torn. It's not like Marvin Lewis, Vance Joseph (I can't believe he was hired in the first place), and Hue Jackson didn't deserve to be fired.

But the Kingsbury hire is ridiculous and so was the Vrabel hire last year.

The idea that there should be more black head coaches just doesn't hold water with me. I don't care that most of the players are black. The skills required to be a player are completely different than the skills needed to be a coach.

There are times when I see a quality name overlooked, but you can say the same thing about white coaches too.

Is there somebody we're missing that deserves a shot? The candidates didn't sound particularly noteworthy this off-season.

Talk radio here was discussing Caldwell given how poorly Patricia's first season here went. They were heavily implying the question should be asked if Caldwell lost the HC job due to color rather than inability to get the team to the next level. Whether Patricia turns out to be the worst HC in Lions history (unlikely given that history) or not Caldwell needed to move on. I appreciate what he did to change the culture while here but he made way to many questionable decisions that did not pan out to be kept. The two situations are not linked IMO. If Patricia leads the Lions to a string of SB wins so long it embarasses the Patriots it still wouldn't mean anything regarding Caldwell. Man did a good job here but had reached the end of what he was going to lead this team to acheive.

I can't see Caldwell termination being a racial thing. I can see it being a Martha giving the fans what they want thing, concurrent with trusting Quinn and the Patriot blah blah blah.
I personally think Caldwell was the right guy at the right time to reel in the culture Schwarz created but could not ultimately control or direct. I also think Schwartz with the right guy at the right time to fire up a dead team.
It turns out Patricia is looking like he totally is not the right guy at the right time.

I also personally think we should have given up Stafford years ago, though I was hoping to concede I was wrong a few years back, when he showed some brief sparks of passion. I think I even made it to watching 3 or 4 games that year. The OO argument has always been "but he's the best you've ever had. Who are you going to get that's better?" In that time, a lot has come around. Oddly enough. Now I have vision of keeping him for two more seasons and then picking up that Lawrence kid healthy and ready to go and finding out he's the real deal. A 19 year old kid with that kind of passion and leadership and from the micro view of one game, ability and acumen. I'm in.

Dallas
Last Friday, the Cowboys fired offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.
...
On Sunday, a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said that owner Jerry Jones will promote quarterbacks coach Kellen Moore to the role of offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile, ex-Cowboys quarterback Jon Kitna will fill the vacancy created by Moore’s promotion.

Kitna was previously the head football coach at Waxahachie High School. But last fall, he resigned after several situations involving player safety.
...
Another report also says that head coach Jason Garrett will now assume a much larger role in play-calling duties.
In 2017, three members of Kitna's staff resigned from the district after violating player-safety protocols, at least one of which resulted in an injury to a player.

The program also reportedly violated several practice regulations before the start of the 2017 season.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

The #Broncos will now shop QB Case Keenum, who is guaranteed $7M in 2019, I’m told. If they can’t, it’s either a massive paycut or a straight up release. He’d be a top backup.

I'm not sad to see Flacco go. He still has a lot of supporters in Baltimore, but I was never one of them. He seems like a good guy, and yes, he stabilized the QB position for the Ravens. And played his best stretch of games during the absolute best time. And I don't blame the Ravens for resigning him after the Super Bowl win. But he was never elite. Those QBs make the players around him better. Flacco never did that. He wouldn't lose you a game, but he wasn't often the positive difference maker either.

I'm not sold on Lamar Jackson being the long term answer for us, but I'm glad to be rid of Joe and his huge contract, while getting at least a little something in return.

I haven't seen enough of Keenum to make an educated comparison of the two. But Flacco played well for Kubiak, so maybe the Broncos coach with the Kubiak connection (head coach? OC? QB coach? I can't remember his name) can get something out of him.

ESPN
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been charged with solicitation of prostitution, Jupiter (Florida) police said.

Police say Kraft is facing two counts of soliciting another to commit prostitution.

Kraft, 77, was one of 25 people to be charged by as part of a months-long investigation, the police said.
TCPalm
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution in connection with a Florida spa tied to an international human trafficking ring, police said Friday.

The NFL owner was charged with paying for sexual services at Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter.

The spa was among 10 shut down in Orlando, Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast after a several-month investigation revealed women there were in "sexual servitude," according to arrest records.

A detective said the acts were captured on surveillance video.
...
Women, many of them from China, lived in the spa and were not permitted to leave, according to Martin County Sheriff Will Snyder.

The owner of that spa, Hua Zhang, 58, of Winter Garden, was arrested and charged with deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution, keeping and frequenting a house of prostitution and 26 counts of procuring for prostitution.

MegaCronic. I like it.

I wonder what Bloomfield Hills thinks. We've turned a corner a head shop is opening in Bloomfield Hills, where the average income is nearly $100,000 a year (compared to around $25,000 nationally)

With regard to prostitution. I have not problem. With regard to prostitution from a establishment that may as well be human trafficking? I have a problem.
