Anyone got a indoor antennae to sell cheap or get rid of?

Post by Daehawk »

I find myself without tv and a lack of money since my wife passed Jan 3. I am getting through with Netflix that was gifted and $1 a month Hulu. But I crave normal flipable tv. I dont like picking channels. Ive been told these little indoor unidirectional antennae work good. But even wit ha big outdoor one many years ago we only got 1 channel...from three available in this area. but a new one should pick up more now. Anyways they are $35-$75 online and I cant do that just to test.

Was hoping someone had one cheap or wanted to get rid of ...maybe for shipping? Thanks for considering me. Let me know.

Heh last time I bought something on Ebay under $5 that should be $35+ it never arrived. If that did it may be a piece of plastic only.

Isn't this the same one on Amazon for $12 Prime?

I mean, I've never had a problem with eBay but I guess if I wanted the extra security of paying double...

Shipping is going to cost more than a flat antenna. They go as low as 20 or so on Amazon. But you need to tape it to a nice window that face the transmitter with no hills in between.

I remember buying one from Terk w/ an amp, but that's like $60-70.

Is the transmitter in that direction? If not, the hill doesn't really matter.

i did find a Mohu Leaf at Goodwill a few years back for $5. i've seen TV antennas regularly show up at thrift stores. you can get any UHF type, doesn't matter how old it is (although if it's an older spade terminal connection, you'll need an adapter to convert it to a coax connector).

Ya the hill is straight in line with the transmitters. Even in the old days a roof mounted one got 1 channel. NBC. Phones dont work here. My sisters iPhone got no signal. I get 1-2 bars from Verizon on a free phone..and it hangs up on people all the time.

Donna said her grandmas house 2 houses down got 2 or 3 channels in the old days. its why in 1995 when cable came down we signed up and have had it since.

You can use a tool like this to see where your transmitters are and how good a signal you can expect-

I made one out of a bunch of coat hangers and a 1x4. Ugly as F but it does the job. The only thing you might need to scrounge up is the connector to a coax cable (it's called a balun, or so I've heard). You need a 75 to 300 Ohm one. Like how you'd hook up your Atari to the TV on channel 3 back in the old days.

One of these. Might be cheaper from other sources, this was the first thing that came up.
