I've seen a lot of those types of diagrams but that's a new one to me, and it's one of the funnier ones too. I feel a bit bad for laughing because kids pay the price for that stupidity but what are you gonna do? Not laugh? Where's the fun in that?

I like the spirit of parody (even when it cuts across my politics) but forced comedy is never very good. I didn't find it terribly funny, but tend to agree on a single point they made: the party scene with women dancing seemed innocuous and out of place in the original ad. But as someone who has been to way too many meetings over my career heh, I still see women say a point that gets completely ignored (or cut off) and then later restated by a man who gets congratulated for making a brilliant point (hers). Thankfully it's rare in my direct workplace these days, but sadly still common in outside meetings.

I’m still unable to see why a commercial for a product men use, that wants men to act like good men, is such a source of consternation for some. I’ve heard the dumbass reasoning, sure. But I guess I just can’t feel that same...or any...outrage over it. Talk about snowflakes.

Anyone that attacks that smug pile of shit would get my vote. Somehow Ted Cruz is only like the 4th or 5th worst human in DC.

I don't have the link, but Reddit noticed that Trump's comments about women with duct taped mouths, finding prayer rugs at the border and the like sure seem the same as what happens at the beginning of Sicario.

Saw that is Social Media picture statement thing that people love to post. I've never heard of the movie, but it did catch my attention. Trump didn't start the prayer rugs at the border thing but it could be coming from the same original sources for all I know.

I'm always guarded against social media fact finding but now I'm even more since I feel betrayed after falling prey to and in turn initially perpetuating the way the MAGA kids Phillips confrontation was originally presented. Both the original presentation and the realization that I went off cocked really affected me.

Bias notwithstanding (it's Maddow's blog, after all), here's the gist.
When making his case for a giant border wall, Donald Trump has turned to a variety of strange talking points...

It’s tempting to dismiss all of this as just another round of nonsense from a president who too often has no idea what he’s saying, but in this case, these three Trump talking points have two things in common.

First, they’re demonstrably false. There’s nothing especially amazing about smugglers’ vehicles; there’s no evidence at all of prayer rugs being found in the dirt by the border (in fact, the whole idea is kind of silly); and experts have marveled at how bizarre Trump’s claims are about women tied up with tape.

Second, each of these appeared in a recent fictional movie.

No, seriously. As Rachel noted on the show last night, there’s a movie called Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which was released last summer, and which included a woman being tied up with tape, smugglers driving vast vehicles, and officials finding prayer rugs in the dirt near the border.

"Prayer rugs found at the border" has apparently been around a while. It's a pre-Trump thing.

It's thought that the story might even have originated with actual rugs/carpet/whatever found near the border. These are frequently used to throw over barbed wire fencing to make it easier to cross.

(Otherwise, you have to believe that jihadists are devout enough to carry their prayer rugs through the desert but then casual enough to abandon them in the dirt.)

Well sure, once they pray they are good for 6 or 8 months until they need to pray again. It makes sense to me.

To be serious, I've heard that a t-shirt can serve as a prayer rug so long as it is clean and treated respectfully.

(Cleanliness matters both before and after. If you find a rug discarded in the dirt, it's not a prayer rug.)
