Ok, lol.

I'm proud to say that my wife is relatively proficient at driving a stick...

The wife and I both drive manuals. She's got a 6 speed Honda Civic Si Coupe while I'm driving a 1980 Chevy Monza Spyder with a V8 and a 4 speed (though I plan to upgrade to a Tremec 5 speed eventually).

Daughter the eldest is going to have to learn to drive a stick eventually as she's the one that's going to inherit the Monza. Not sure when I'll be able to spend the time to teach her though since she's in Omaha and we're in Mesa.

I learned to drive on a stick in 1986, and I drove one until 2001.

Since then, though, no. What's the point? I don't care about "performance," and if it's about gas mileage then you should buy hybrid or electric.

I learned on a manual in 1986. Was my first car...a 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5. Dad put me behind the wheels and said go...so I did. A week of off and on and I was good.

My wife said an ex boyfriend once tried to teach her but it didn't work out anymore than he did.

So when I met my wife I sold my Corolla and we drove her Trans-Am. The only time I drove a manual since that day was around 1995 and we test drove a RX-7.

I miss her :(

My wife is the one who drives the manual Wrangler and that is indeed the proper shift pattern.

Every car I've owned since 1974 has been a stick. Taught Wife how to drive in the winter of 1980 in the hills around Ithaca, on my old Mustang that liked to spit out second gear. Once she mastered that, she could drive anything, and every car she's owned since then has been manual, too.

I might resort to an automatic if I ever get too old and infirm to drive. Hopefully that's still 10+ years off, and cars will drive themselves by then.

Our 2004 Volvo (100,000 miles, bought from the in-laws seven or eight years ago) has developed serious transmission and fuel issues that probably aren't worth fixing.

We've just sold a house, so we have a little money and we're thinking of buying a hybrid. (This may be its own thread soon.)

What strikes me is this: between the rise of Uber/Lyft/Whatever, concern over climate, and our fortunate urban access to public transportation (we're on good bus routes), the vehicle we buy will probably be our last.

Im hoping to keep the Mustang running forever. Donna picked it out in 2010. She wanted it SO bad we couldn't wait on my disability back pay so she got a loan in her name and got the car. A week or two later we got my back pay and instantly paid off the loan. Id die before selling it.

When I joined GT I needed one there, so I changed it here too, both for consistency and because I was tired of King Crimson. IDK how long I'll stick with Alex; he just happened to be in my clipart folder.

Got it.

I wouldn't even know who that is except re-runs are on late at night. I missed it the first time around and I never watch it now. On the plus side I did recognize who they were mashing it up with.

I had a monza. It was so bad on snow it got stuck on flat road with about an inch of snow. The backend was super light. My wrestling coach had to give me a push to get started (of course I can't remember how many times we pushed his truck up the hill by the school during practice). I beat the shit out of that car.

My step brother had a Monza. Our Trans-Ams were super light in the rear. They'd slide and spin in rain easy. Theres a little bridge near us...near me :(....that in rain you'd just slide off if you didn't go slow and hit it right. This Mustang is light too. We went out in the snow about 4 years ago to get our medicine but had to stop on a slight hill and couldn't get up over then from the red light. A cop made us pull into a parking lot to wait. After he left we went back down and had to go home without medicine. We did get stuck once headed to town but got a push.

A nice memory I keep :(

Fortunately, rain and snow are a rarity in the greater Phoenix area.

It did rain the other day though and yeah, it can get a bit squirrelly.
