I can't claim familiarity with every song, but I'm surprised to see so much Siouxsie & and the Banshees.

Was Siouxsie really considered punk? (Musically, I mean. I know the band was part of the London club scene.)

I think of S&tB as the grittier corner of New Wave preparing the way for the Goths.

EDIT: Or, well, I suppose that's how it all went eventually. A little research shows that Siouxsie was way into the edgy-punk-pseudoNazi-chic thing. (Like Bowie.)

I don't hate punk, but it's something I would never voluntarily listen to.

However, I can take some punkish metal bands like Moorhead or Cro Mags.

The year is interesting to me. You figure in 1981 Minor Threat, Misfits, Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Bauhaus, etc.. etc.. etc.. were all coming through while at the same time there is no acknowledgement of Iggy Pop or MC5 or Ramones or the like.

For me, it would be another three years until I really started getting some exposure wherein I was about to feel like I had just missed out on all the things that are yet to be acknowledged in that top 100 list. Like this great chapter in music had come to a close before I could even drive and experience it.

Cro Mags are hardcore. Totally different head.

And that list is obviously from England. It looks to me like the DK's are about the only American band on there.

Co-worker got a Black Flag tattoo on his forearm as a highly paid IT contractor. He was 42 at the time. Our youth stays with us 'til the end, it seems.

My first exposure to Rollins was at university when I started hanging out with some people who would become future friends of mine. There was a large Rollins poster on the wall that I didn't recognize and had to ask about. I came from a white bread straight laced suburban high school and while my brother was into the punk scene, he was 6 years older and hated me (the feeling was mutual) so I just never ventured into punk much before then. Not much after either, although I did enjoy some ska-punk fusion for awhile, mostly because I enjoyed moshing.

I never paid enough attention to be able to carry on a conversation on the subject, but I certainly knew it existed. The Ramones saw to that.

Out in the lounge today, I saw a Black Flag tat on an IT Hack. A little voice inside my head said, "Don't defrag, you can never defrag."
