Sulphur Aeon's The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos release last year was absolutely insane. Fits today's mood pretty well.

Looking at an old hard drive that had a bunch of music on it I came across Metallica S+M. God, I forgot how much I loved that album.

That Sulpher Aeon release was one of my favorites of ‘18, along with Sludge and Altars of Grief.

Excellent album as well. Had a very Woods of Ypres vibe that I really dug.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
an Australian in the house. i used to listen to "The Big Backyard" on my local-ish college station Friday nights in the early 90s (it was followed by the New Zealand indie rock show afterwards). Mental As Anything, YouAmI, Screamfeeder, Spiderbait, Powderfinger, Grinspoon, [Australian rock musicians really liked compound words,] Bodyjar, The Superjesus, The Cruel Sea, Something for Kate, Blackeyed Susans, Frenzel Rhomb.. and of course Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Midnight Oil, Yothu Yindi, The Church... when streaming online radio became a thing the first station i went to was Triple J. i will say, the music arm of Australia's cultural outreach program did its job - i still am into the music of the 'antipodes' to this day.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Several acts there I wouldn't have expected to be heard much outside Australia.
I'm coming to the end of about nine months delving through my 80s catalogue* (and before that did the 70s and 50s/60s). Lots of great music that hasn't seen much rotation in recent years.
*though not exclusively, I've also had a Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry thing going on

In an effort to keep up with the youths, I watched a few music videos by Billie Eilish, the teen sensation of the moment.
I... really like her music? At the least the recent stuff I posted here. I also watched some of her videos from a couple of years ago, and they're kind of bland.

I know they're trendy, but I can't get Vampire Weekend's "This Life" out of my head.
It's a boppy song for the summer, but the lyrics are subtly dark and unsettling. Clever!

The Gloaming - 3
'post-Irish-traditional' group. contender for my album of the year already.

I know that Amon Amarth is the "AC/DC of death metal", but I still love them.

Yup. Seen them once, really looking forward to catching them again this fall. They'll be touring with At the Gates, Arch Enemy, and Grand Magus.
In Salt Lake Oct 3, Denver on Oct 4.

The entire R.E.M. discography. They are one of my favorite bands of all time, but it's been awhile since I've revisited all of their albums.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I've always felt that Bill Berry's departure was the true end of R.E.M. So in my mind, New Adventures in Hi-Fi was their last "real" album. I haven't enjoyed any of them after that on the same level. However, there are songs from each of their later albums I enjoy.hitbyambulance wrote:how are you feeling about... the last five-to-seven albums. especially _Reveal_ and _Around the Sun_
To be fair, however, I haven't listened to their later albums near to the level I listened to the early ones. That was actually part of my purpose for this review of their discography - to hit those later albums all these years later and see if I like them better than I did initially.
