Rage 2...actually looks fun

Post by Daehawk »

Hella fun too. I played the first one at least 3 times. This one looks like they're combining Rage with mad Max for open world goodness. Cant wait.

Looks more like a reboot than a sequel to me.

Which is a good thing. Rage was dull.

Yeah, the more I see it, the less I feel like I want to play it. I loved the first one, but this one looks way too hyper.

Say what you will about Bethesda, whoever they put in charge of marketing for this game is pretty much on point.

For anyone that is on the fence about the game and would like to see some gameplay, there are a number of early access streamers playing it on Twitch.

I finished off the story tonight. I've logged about 47 hours in the game, although that includes a lot of running around and shooting up the countryside while I tracked down as many side missions and locations as I could find. About that only thing I disliked about the game is that there is a race that you have to win in at the start of one of the three story lines, and it was more than a challenge for my feeble manual dexterity. I did eventually manage it, but there were a couple of rage quits along the way.

After the credits roll (accompanied by a series of comic panels that retell the story), you get an epilogue cinematic and then can continue to play in the open world. I like the combat enough that I'll probably fire it up from time to time for some quick mayhem.

A lot of Rage (1)'s issues weren't noticeable right away or by watching a few minutes of gameplay. It wasn't a terrible game, but it wasn't a good one, either. Meaningless crafting, poor AI, terrible controls (unremovable reverse acceleration?), a weird perspective (this plus the last suggest a lazy port), an open world that was nothing but a linear commute to missions, and a bad story capped with an absolutely terrible ending.

Does 2 improve on that at all?

I bounced off Rage fairly quickly and never got back to it, so I don't really have a feel for how it compares to Rage 2.

The game mechanics all feel fine to me, with nothing that seems weird or awkward compared to any other shooters I've played. The storyline seems OK to me, nothing exceptional but not horribly bad as games go. Crafting seems functional in that you can craft consumables like grenades and such, along with upgrading your weapons, abilities and your main vehicle. The open world seems servicable. It looks great, and there are a lot of locations/side missions to find in addition to the story missions. There are also randomly spawned mobs all over the map, so I can generally find a scrap in short order if I just feel like shooting something.

All in all, I feel like I got my money's worth from the game. I'd probably consider replaying it at some time, and I'll be checking out any story DLC that they release.

This has been my experience so far also. I'm 13 hours in, have plenty left to do and am enjoying the combat a lot. I certainly have some gripes about some of the design choices but they haven't put me off from having fun with the game. 75% of my gripes would be solved if you could upgrade your focus power to show loot chests. I've been putting off the mandatory racing mission. I have had bad experiences with mandatory racing mission. Looking at you, Mafia. We'll see how much Rage that generates in me.

EDIT: Passed the race on the first attempt. :horse: It was close.

You might want to take a look at some of Dr Kvasir's projects...

Ready to delete Rage 2. Theres a place to make a canyon jump in your car them clean out the base. Ive jumped 18 times but die in the base. Ive saved my game MULTIPLE times INSIDE that damn base as Ive cleaned it out but when I die it starts me all the way back at that ramp across the canyon. Looking at my save its set at 15 min mark when the autosave at the ramp is 22 min. So no idea whats going on...but I dont care for it.

Thats it! I deleted it. Pissed me off too much. I drove to a SMALL base and tried to take it out. Kept dying. Used up all my health kits and on load it didn't replace them so I have no health kits. Then after 2 reloads I had no car. So I stole one of theirs....and blew up when I tried to use the weapon on it. Fine Ill do it the hard way. Nope. I get shot and lose a lot of health so I hide. It doesn't refill all the way. Each time I was hurt it refilled less and less until it finally only refilled to 15 health...which is 1 bullet of damage. Died....NOPE FUCK YOU GAME!

Are you playing on some insane difficultly level or do you lower your games to easy or story mode and just enjoy the ride? Just throwing it out there. I no longer have the reflexes or skill to play some games as they're designed.

You are making me want to fire up the game again. I think it may still be installed via XBOX for PC. I don't recall anything like that. I'm struggling to remember any fights that were unusually hard. Or even hard. I had a blast with it. I don't even remember health kits....

As you travel the map from mission to mission or just sightseeing you'll notice little ? marks appear on the map. They are places of interest. Bandit dens and the like. I usually stop and clear each place out before doing any big stuff. Sometimes you'll get quests from the main town in the area for one. If you've already been there and cleared it you can simply speak to the npc and instantly turn it in if its a little quest. But if its a main story quest you have to go back because it will be repopulated with the baddies you are after.

Its made me wonder if I hadn't cleared it out would the normal gang be there along with the story baddies or would it simply replace the gangs with what was needed. I was glad Id done them anyways because just in case I then only had to deal with the story bad guys plus Id gotten the loot from killing the normal gang there before.

I is completed its. Finally. Unless I missed some site on the map I found 100% of the sites and 100% completed each one.

Not sure I want to start Vampyr or Rebel Galaxy Outlaw.
