Wednesday's game got moved up. Apparently there's something else going on that night.

I don’t thin Hernandez is going to get a quality start for the Red Sox.

Yankee stadium is dumb. Watching people hit opposite field line drives for home runs is the best!

Re: MLB Season 2019
Poor Seager, he's probably out six weeks. Justin Turner was saying that Seager being on the bases so much plus the high heat (for SoCal) probably contributed to the (probable) Grade 2 pulled hamstring.
So the Dodgers finally lost a series. It had to happen as the offense has come down to earth.
Also El Guapo, Sox need to get ball. Yes. That Pence shot is hilarious.

What was the center fielder doing? Why didn't he get the ball? I couldn't figure that out.

I'm guessing that by the time he realized that the right fielder (Holt) wasn't getting the ball it was too late for him to get to it? Or maybe he also thought it went out at first?Lorini wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:42 pmWhat was the center fielder doing? Why didn't he get the ball? I couldn't figure that out.

Of course Darvish comes back to Dodger Stadium and pitches like Sandy Koufax. Of course.

Re: MLB Season 2019
I was kind of expecting the Cubs to only take one game out of four in LA, but I didn't expect it to be the Darvish start. The Cubs certainly had their chances at the end of the last game there, but just couldn't quite get it done.
On a tangential note, the College World Series is under way in Omaha, and Michigan is playing in it for the first time since 1984 (when some scrubs named Chris Sabo, Jim Abbott, and Barry Larkin were wearing the maize and blue). We were among the last four in the tournament, but we beat the defending champs Oregon State in the Corvalis regional and then took 2 of 3 from overall 1 seed UCLA to make the CWS. We won the first game Saturday against Texas Tech (avenging somewhat the basketball tourney?) and face Florida State on Monday (also one of the last four in). Go Blue!

The Mets are very very bad. Alonso is very very good. Dear god he hit the 3rd deck in Citi Field. Nobody does that.

I was at Jewel-Osco (Jewels) picking up some emergency beer and they had the game on in their lounge area (?) by the checkout. Was pleasantly shocked to see them in the CWS.ImLawBoy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 12:04 am I was kind of expecting the Cubs to only take one game out of four in LA, but I didn't expect it to be the Darvish start. My daughter asked me who Jim Edmonds was yesterday. I was pretty pleased, thinking she found an old baseball card or saw a video of one of his theatrical catches. Nope, I guess he got caught sexting and his wife is a "social influencer" so this generation will only know him as a cheater and a douche.
Just like the previous generations.
*Ba dum*
(Not really, just too good of a line. I always thought he was fun to watch even if his antics in the outfield were a bit much. No idea if he juiced.)

The year he spent with the Cubs was a bit surreal. Cubs fans had spent a lot of energy loathing him, and then we had to cheer for him.

In other news, the shooting of David Ortiz was apparently a case of mistaken identity (??????????????????????????????????????????????????). The shooter was supposed to shoot the much shorter and fair skinned guy sitting next to Big Papi, not Big Papi.
That seems amazing to me. I'm sorry anyone would get shot for any reason but one would think Big Papi is pretty well known in the Dominican Republic.

The Dodgers are the 28th team to lose a World Series but return the next year -- including three that lost two in a row before qualifying for a third. Fifteen of those 28 succeeded where they had failed a season earlier and claimed a championship.

Hey at least we have the pennant going for two years in a row!!!!
Who knows what's going to happen this year. We may have just lost one of our cornerstone pitchers.
And yes, why we allow Kershaw to pitch in the WS is a mystery to me.

It would be interesting to see if this would actually work.
Rays to explore splitting games with Montreal
Rays to explore splitting games with Montreal
The Tampa Bay Rays have received permission from Major League Baseball's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play early-season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday.
While the plan is in its nascent stages, the Rays have embraced the two-city solution as the most feasible to saving baseball in the Tampa Bay area after years of failed attempts to build a new stadium in the region, sources said.
Under the plan, the Rays would play in new stadiums in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal, sources said. The number of home games each city would receive has not been determined, sources said.
Manfred referred to the idea of a two-city Rays team as a long-term project.
The ability to play games early in the season in Florida would preclude the need for a domed stadium, cutting the cost of a new building.

If Tampa baseball needs saving because they can't get a new stadium built there, how does a plan that apparently hinges on getting new stadiums in both Montreal AND Tampa help with that?

Re: MLB Season 2019
The stadium in FL could be built as open air which would significantly lower the cost. That (apparently) has been the big sticking point. Then the Rays would play the early games in FL and the later games (when it is much warmer) in MTL.Asharak wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 4:22 pm Huh?

I imagine that at least part of the point here would be to threaten Tampa Bay with a pretty explicit threat to leave, and also make it easier for the Rays to leave if they ultimately decided to do that (since they would already have a stadium in place in Montreal).Asharak wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 4:22 pm Huh?

Re: MLB Season 2019
Ah. I assumed the comment about precluding the need for a domed stadium was in reference to not needing one in Montreal, given that they wouldn't be playing there in March/April when there could still be snow on the ground.
I'm still sceptical but I suppose that makes slightly more sense.
This seems much more like a typical MLB ownership's modus operandi. I mean, heaven forfend they actually pay for their own multi-million-dollar-revenue-generating business venue. Sometimes I wonder if owners are actually unwilling to do that or if they just get bullied by the other owners into not doing it so as not to set a precedent that the next owner who wants a stadium would have to pay for it, too.
