In hindsight, bravo Lars.
I can now pay $10 a month and get any song or album I want, any time I want, and not have to worry about viruses, malware, or even waiting for it to download.
It was a bumpy ride to get here, but I wouldn't go back to those days of "free music" for anything in the world.

Was wishing there was more Dire Straits albums songs, so I picked up a bunch of Mark Knopfler's solo stuff (free Amazon Prime to Amazon Music)
Also Grimes (saw them on AXS TV from 2016 Glastonbury, and I like 80's synth-pop), as well as some new The Cult (after seeing them live a month ago).

Huh. Had no idea who that was or what the song was. Until I clicked play... That one gets played quite a bit on one of my Pandora stations. Guess I'd just never stopped to look at the info for the song.

I was never a big fan of Immortal, but Abbath's solo stuff is absolutely fantastic. Picked up "Abbath" on a whim before getting on the plane last night, and listened to it straight through four times. It was that good.
If I heard it out of context, I'd swear this was a Sigh song (in all the best ways).

finally got around to the 2015 reissue/remaster/remix - still sounds _really_ good on a decent hifi setup.

New album is damn good too. Not a huge black metal fan, but I really dig Abbath.Skinypupy wrote:I was never a big fan of Immortal, but Abbath's solo stuff is absolutely fantastic. First new Tool song in 13 years dropped this morning. I like it more than I expected to.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I was just about to post this. 13 years! Sounds closer to the stuff from Lateralus, which isn't a bad thing. I've never seen TOOL perform, only A Perfect Circle and he spent the whole show in the dark, facing away from the crowd. Not sure if I'd go to a TOOL show, but I'll definitely get this album.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Re: What are you listening to right now?
He did that the last time we saw Tool as well. Stood at the very back of the stage, in the dark, with his back to the audience the entire show. While I like their music, I will never pay to see them live again.
Shame, as the Aenima tour was one of the top 5 concerts I've ever been to. They were incredible.

i think the other Tool albums are now available on streaming services. they were the last major holdout that i know of (along with King Crimson, tho Fripp relented this year for the band's 50th anniversary)

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I only saw Tool once. It was at the local punk rock dive bar. Place held about 200 people tops. This was back when Maynard faced the crowd. Back before he was MAYNARD FROM TOOL.
He had his eyelids taped open for most of the show and he just STARED at everyone, tears streaming down his face. That was back when you could still smoke in bars...
He went to art school here and was room mates with a couple of my good friends from those days. He'd come back to visit around the holidays, his Dad still lived Up North and he'd spend a couple days in GR on his way through. I once smoked a joint with him in a pink Cadillac...indoors, at the bar where I worked, while I was on the clock.
He wasn't MAYNARD FROM TOOL yet but he was still a pretty fascinating guy. He really was always destined for big things. Always had big plans and pulled them off. One summer he walked home from college in Boston. Like 800 miles.

Me too. They were on the 2nd stage at the 3rd Lollapallooza and they played to about 20 of us and they... were... awesome... They had a great attitude for a few guys playing to 20 people in scorching heat. By far the highlight of the whole day. Going in, I knew who Tool were, but I didn't really listen to them. They were part of our joke about naming bands after they thing you could find in the garage you were playing in "Hammerbox... tool... bag of empties... oil stain..." I left as a fan.

I know we've talked about Twilight Force on here before, given their appearance at 70000 Tons of Metal, and Skinypupy going to see them.
Their new album is out today. And while it's full of power metal cheese as one might expect, I am pleasantly surprised that, at least on album, the addition of Alessandro Conti (aka Allyon) actually made the band better. Listen for yourself:

Re: What are you listening to right now?
That song was miles better than the first single they released from the new album, but I'm still not really feeling Conti as the lead singer. To me, he just looks and sounds kinda bored with the whole thing. Christian might not have been the best singer, but dude was definitely earnest about and fully dedicated to all the silliness.
Still, I'll probably grab this and listen to it on the flight home today. Hopefully it grows on me, as my kids can only sing "Flight of the Sapphire Dragons" so many times before I start feeling like they need to change it up.
Thankfully, they've latched onto this one lately, which has actually been hilarious. The Wonder Twins were chasing each other around the house with swords the other day, and were narrating their battle by singing "Fight for the king, for the hammer and the ring!"

Discovered The Seratones while listing to KEXP one day. This song is from their first album Get Gone released in 2015 and they have a new one coming out in a week.

Twin Temple was announced as the opener for Ghost in SLC next month. It's silly and gimmicky (just like Ghost), but I'm quite enjoying their Satanic doo-wop.
