Drqz should take at least 20% of any take home income, be that public aid income or job income, and put it in the bank. Deep in the bank. Otherwise there is no point to the being rent free.

The Oregon coast is also an easy two hour drive away and it’s lovely in the summer.

I am confused. How do money troubles, job troubles etc etc lead to trips to Mexico and the East Coast? Where is all the found money coming from that wasn't there before and caused challenges we've all been reading about.
Aren't you just going to start all over again with life as it was a last year by spending and not planning?
Or you can spend your money, make bad decisions, and keep riding that hamsterwheel.
You just moved to a new city and you don't work. Why do you need a vacation to Mexico? You are basically on vacation already. Explore Portland if you're bored.

I'm going to assume that the 'scamming' portion came from your need for subsidized housing while at the same time planning vacations....

But remember as other folks have mentioned, you are not far from some really nice places to visit and you can do it on a sensible budget so after you beat yourself up make a new reasonable plan. I'm sure folks who live or visited the area can chime in with ideas.Drazzil wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 5:06 pmYeah you guys talked me into it. That was a stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid... All I can say is that I'd absolutely kill to be in a place like Portland for a few days with a couple of hundred dollars that I'd budgeted myself to spend.

In Draz's defense, Uber and Lyft both require a relatively new vehicle to be a driver on their service.

Re: Drazzil Mega Thread: Man! Finding furniture in Portland is easy!
I got some furniture from a couple that were leaving. Literally they were leaving town in a hurry and down on their luck. I got a bed, bed post, tv stand, coffee table, dining room table, ez chair, couch, nightstand, dresser, lamp, plates, cups, pans, silverware, laundry basket, dish drainer and I'm missing a few things.
The furniture is used, the only complaint is a lumpy spring in one seat part of the couch and the bed stand MIGHT be too small for a twin bed... But the stuff is ALL extremely servicable if scuffed, scratched and used and it only ran me two bills for everything including haul up placement and reassembly (their car was small and they had to take some stuff apart) The ez chair and recliner are leather. And both recline.
They only asked 140 but I felt bad as all get out for them so I upped it to two bills and a silver chain I gifted them with.

Sept.1 is known as Allston Christmas. That's when most leases in Boston expire and 250,000 college students move back into town. The streets are packed with moving vans, and especially with abandoned furniture and appliances. (The link's a few years old, but nothing has changed except the faces.)

Check for bloodstains.
When I was a kid, we loved graduation time at U of Michigan. Lots of half filled bottles of booze and Playboy's left at the fraternities and med school dorms, furniture by the apartments and co-ops, we would even get a few bikes every year. All you had to risk was angry facilities workers who wanted first pick of the goodies.Kraken wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:02 am Sept.1 is known as Allston Christmas. If only. With used furniture, it's never what you see that's the problem. To save everyone's sanity, I won't do my usual, but I will tell Draz not to run out and purchase bug bombs, mainly for safety reasons (and general uselessness in this situation).

I was thinking more in terms of
"Drazzil Mega Thread: What is an "accessory after the fact"?!?"
Rather than
"Drazzil Mega Thread: How to get rid of bedbugs and semen stains?!?"
But you make a good point.

I checked for bugs, bug dust, and other signs of bedbugs, repeatedly before I brought it up.

It's okay to be kind and generous when you are in a position to do so.
Have you been reading this thread???? Draz gets a few extra bucks in his hands and all of a sudden all of his troubles go away. Until they don't. Then he complains. Rinse, Repeat.

Yes, I've been reading this thread. Was it the smartest decision to give them more money? No. Was it fine given the overall scope? Yes. If it was his last $40, then it'd be a problem. If he starts giving $40 to everyone he sees on the street, then it's a problem. Being kind to people who looked like they needed it (and gave him a lot of stuff for a really low price) isn't a sign of a character flaw.stimpy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:50 amIt's okay to be kind and generous when you are in a position to do so.

Yeah, of all the poor decisions, this one ranks pretty low if at all. If $200 was a fair price, giving them an extra $40 to get there isn't the worst thing he could have done. It's actually a nice gesture.ImLawBoy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:54 am

He's screwed....lol.
I know it seems I may be piling on Draz. I'm not.
It's just the history of this saga pretty much predetermines the outcome.
I hope I'm wrong and he starts making rational decisions to help improve his life, but not gonna wager on it.
