Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Just heard Bill Rieflin passed today.
While not a household name, he played in most of the big industrial bands in the 90's and 00's. Played on albums from Ministry, Pigface, 1000 Homo DJ's, NIN, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks. Even got into some metal (King Crimson) and rock (Swans, REM). He was only 59.
RIP

King Crimson is metal? Avant garde more than anything. I don't recognize the name but it he played with King Crimson, I probably heard his stuff. King Crimson was mostly a Robert Fripp affair along with whomever he was digging at the time.Skinypupy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:42 pm Just heard Bill Rieflin passed today.

More metal-adjacent, I suppose. Primarily as a huge influence on prog metal.Jeff V wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 10:38 pmKing Crimson is metal?Skinypupy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:42 pm Just heard Bill Rieflin passed today.

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
I could see something like 20th Century Schizoid Man being a metal influence. In the following decades they morphed into something completely different, especially when they adopted young Adrian Belew.Skinypupy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 11:15 pmMore metal-adjacent, I suppose. I understand what you are getting at, but none of those are industrial. They are guitar pseudo-pop industrial.Skinypupy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:42 pm Just heard Bill Rieflin passed today.

If KMFDM and Pigface aren't considered industrial, then you have a far narrower definition that most do, I imagine.

Damn, that sucks. I'm not panicked over Corona, but it is scary how it can take someone who seemingly is getting better. It's not as if he waited until the last minute to get medical care. RIP, brother.

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Yeah, that was my take. Look up any list of most influential industrial bands and Ministry is going to appear. Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Einstürzende Neubauten...they're all considered founding members of Industrial to some extent, and even between those bands there's enough variation to say Industrial isn't that narrow.
Now, if you want to say "Work for Love" era Ministry isn't Industrial, then sure. But then they got beat up on the playground or something and turned into the Ministry that we know today.

Plenty of jokes come to mind about this, but respect for the man and his talent dictate otherwise:

Oh man, I was just rewatching Re-Animator last night on the Joe Bobs Briggs 2018 marathon on Shudder. And I found a Blu ray of From Beyond a year or so ago (that movie is bonkers). Stuart Gordon was one of the greats. He will be sorely missed.
I love that one of his trademarks in his early films was including his wife Carolyn Purdy-Gordon...so he could kill her off.

Mark Blum
Mark Blum, a veteran character actor who starred in the films “Desperately Seeking Susan” and “Crocodile Dundee,” as well as the recent TV series “You,” has died due to complications from the coronavirus. He was 69.
The New York theater company Playwrights Horizons first announced the news, and SAG-AFTRA executive vice president Rebecca Damon confirmed that Blum passed away due to COVID-19. Representatives for Blum additionally confirmed the news to TheWrap.
Blum was also a fixture of the New York theater community, having won an Obie Award for his performance in the Playwrights Horizons production of a play from Albert Innaurato, “Gus and Al.” He’s also appeared on Broadway in Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers,” Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man” and more.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

You didn't specify which Curly. I was thinking Three Stooges, all of which died long ago...
Still, there was a time when I was young when I did like the Globetrotters and he was, of course, a favorite as well as Meadowlark Lemon. RIP entertaining basketball person.

I also thought Stooges first then remembered he died long ago. Also loved meadowlark but Curly was my always favorite. Ive wanted to see them since I was a kid but never got to go. We either didn't feel like it or didn't have the money. it was no big deal as the ones I grew up watching and wanted to see had retired. RIP man.

I've taken my sons to see the Globetrotters a couple of times. Those are the only times I've seen the Globetrotters live, but I will always remember Curly. My kids will not remember anyone they saw. Curly was definitely special.

The museum at the LaBrea Tar Pits has a whole wall of dire wolf skulls. It doesn't appear imposing until you get to the exhibit comparing one with a modern wolf skull.

Since this thread seems determined to cling to life, can I please request a retitle? "R.I.P. The thread of death" sounds like something out of an 80s shock mag.
I'd suggest "Final Respects." Nothing more. No [Brackets], no "...", just "Final Respects."
