I find myself listening to far less music since I've been working from home. Some of it is because I no longer have a commute (which was my main music blasting time), but I find playing music to be very distracting at home. Which is odd, because I had no issue listening to music while I worked at the office. I've only purchased 6 new albums so far this year, which is probably the fewest I've picked up in any 6-months span in the past decade.

The one album I keep coming back to the most this year is Aeternam's Al Qassam. It's absolutely brilliant. "Palmyra Scriptures" might be my favorite song of 2020, and it's not even metal. Just beautiful.

speaking of bands that haven't released anything for a long time (until this year), the new X is enjoyable. it's also really short (28 minutes)

there was also supposed to be a new Psychedelic Furs album this spring, but that's been delayed til July 31st

Shed the Skin has a new album coming out on Friday, so I thought I'd revisit their older stuff. Nothing revolutionary about it, just a slice of solid death metal you can bang your head to.

we signal in a moonbeam
I beg you to follow me
you say that I'll be surprised at the codes in a sunrise
but if I don't like what I see
and my grip starts loosening
the edge of the big reveal
could be the end of the story...
As awesome as the music is, once you really start reading through the lyrics, it really re-enforces my belief that this band is criminally underrated.

We were listening to Legendary Pink Dots “9 Lives to Wonder” album on the way home today. B asks, “Dad, what do you call this type of music?” I...honestly wasn’t sure how to answer.

“Hotel Z” gives me all the damn feels.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

New tracks from The Atomic Bitchwax and Apoptygma Berzerk. Both really good.

I forgot to call it "a box of pure malevolent evil, a purveyor of
insidious insanity, an eldritch manifestation that would make Bill
Gates let out a low whistle of admiration," but it's all those, too.

also i was looking and while i own a few BÖC albums, i don't have _Fire of Unknown Origin_. this is an oversight i will soon correct. this really is a band whose albums really should be vinyl, but digital downloads will have to do :/

This is the full version of song playing during the Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home bus scene:

This now has me listening to Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, which I've never actually done in its entirety before.

I didn't care much for Ray Lamontagne's experimentation in Supernova - he's one of those musicians I selfishly like to stay in the lane of his early albums.

MONOVISION is a return to those days, with Ray pulling a one-man band stunt on this album. It's stripped down to its barest elements, with heavy elements of Neil Young and John Denver. To that end, it's my favorite album of his since 2006's TIL THE SUN TURNS BLACK.

I think it might actually be too hot out for metal. I guess that means it's time for jangly surf pop.

Huh, I guess black metal isn't just surf rock with distortion, after all.

I couldn't stop laughing at this. According to this guy, listening to music that emphasizes the 2nd and 4th beats "short-circuits the moral frontal lobe" and is a danger to Christians.

I wonder how he feels about blast beats?
