MLB 2021: Offseason chat

Post by Lorini »

Yeah I didn't think it would even happen but here we are. All is good with my world, the Giants will suck and the Dodgers will take the division :)

What are you hoping for/anticipating this season?

That the Jays find a place to play and don't spread disease.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

The lowly Padres have a pretty impressive infield with Machado, Tatis, Profar and Hosmer. Who knows what could happen in 60 games...

Useful for all teams now, and for Miami/Tampa in future seasons!

I got an e-mail from the Red Sox that if you donate (presumably above a certain amount) to the Red Sox foundation, they'll put a cardboard cutout of you on the Green Monster, and if "you" get hit by a home run, you win a prize.

Anyway, I'm still planning on essentially skipping the Red Sox season this year due to the idiotic and craven Betts trade, but I'll likely revisit in the unlikely event that they make the playoffs.

The White Sox are doing something where if you donated to a charity they're putting cardboard cutouts in the stand for the opening weekend (I think). Seems like a good thing.

This could potentially reduce the number of drunken brawls at Dodger Stadium.

Soto on the Nationals was tested 2 days ago. He found out today he's positive. He's been playing all week. They are only isolating him and he'll need 2 negative tests separated by 24 hours to be allowed to return. The rest of the team is still waiting for their results. But they are still playing. This is going to be interesting.

I don't want virtual fans. Maybe it's just my curiosity, but I want to hear and see exactly what the players, coaches, and umpires say and what they hear without artificial white noise and fans on my TV.

Too much profanity to let you hear a live audio feed from the field.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but I was watching the Cubs/Sox exhibitions and they kept having to mute the audio from the field due to (presumed) profanity.

I love peoples comments on FB that if they see kneeling they are done. I hate these people so much... I really think the Mets are going to get their ass kicked this season, but that won't really upset me. They just don't have many teams in the schedule that you would classify as easy games. And we all know what happens when the Mets and Yanks square up. :(

Edit
Regular season series: Yankees, 71–51.... So while terrible isn't as terrible as I think it is.

Dodgers Place Clayton Kershaw On Injured List

What really happened, was he got afraid to play the Giants and lose again.

Kershaw has a 1.74 ERA lifetime against the Giants. I assume fans are celebrating his injury in the streets about now.

ESPN did it just fine with MLS matches. Just air it on a delay and mute what you can when there's audible profanity.

I hope they do this for the NBA games. Would be great to hear the players to each other, although I imagine there will need to be a lot of muting...

For the NBA, there is talk of a 30s delay. They don't want to go longer than that because it would ruin real time betting.

I prefer to say that it's remarkable that 75% of the Yankees starting rotation has yet to win a game while the entire Red Sox starting rotation has yet to lose one.

Buffalo Blue Jays
The Buffalo Blue Jays are . . . go!

That’s the word from the Toronto Blue Jays, who announced a few minutes ago that they have reached an agreement to play the majority of their home games at Sahlen Field, where their Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons, normally play. In their statement, set forth below, the Jays thank the City of Buffalo and the State of New York, which suggests that, unlike their plans for Toronto and Pittsburgh, they now actually have governmental sign off.

Why a “majority” of home games will happen in Buffalo as opposed to all 30 is unclear, but the Jays tweeted that an updated schedule will soon be released. I can’t help but think some home games may be turned into road games in the interest of reducing travel, but we’ll know the specifics soon enough. UPDATE: The Jays’ first scheduled home series versus the Nationals – July 29-30 – will take place in Washington, to accommodate infrastructure modifications at Sahlen Field.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Well, MLB.tv finally figured out how to enforce their Canada-wide blackout against me, so I guess it will be pirate streams or nothing for me this year. I'm not subscribing to a cable package just for one station, for baseball. Mind you, we're still subscribed to MLB.tv so Mrs. Nym can watch the Mariners. Just frustrating. For the longest time I was able to watch the Jays on her account because when she created it she was still living in the U.S.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Well I don't think Diaz is going to get another save chance. Looks like his long ball issues are still present. Gave up a homer in the 9th today. Yesterday he also almost gave up a HR it went just foul. Could have been 2-0 but noo....
