Halfway through that trailer I started waiting for her to say "Call me crazy, one more time."

I really loved the first Wonder Woman movie. I want this one to succeed. I'm afraid the CGI (as it stands) may put a lot of people off. There's CGI characters, and then there's Gumby CGI characters. It's like the faster the character moves on the screen, the less attention they pay to the skeleton inside the body.

The CGI does give me pause. The Ares bit in the original was an issue, too. I'm not too worried about Wiig, though. Not everyone who does well in a role seems to fit the role. Keaton didn't seem like Batman, Ledger didn't seem like Joker, and Clooney should have been a great Batman.

It was okay. After watching The Batman trailer, though, it's disappointing. Different type of movie but this doesn't seem to be as well done (from the trailer).

Forgive my ignorance as I really don't know much about superhero or comics, but is there a reason for setting this in 1984? I mean, from looking at the trailer, I don't get much of a reason other than the fact that it's 'cool and flashy'. I'm hoping there's more to it than that, as the first movie used its time-period brilliantly.

I believe the Marvel Comics Universe answer is "Holy shit, people LOVED the 80's vibe in Thor Ragnarok. More of THAT!"

Functionally, too, it keeps some plot lines open that get closed too easily by modern technology. If you watch the old X-Files episodes, almost all of the tension and drama hinges on the fact that the characters can't communicate with each other and lack evidence. How would those be re-written in a time when everyone has a pocket camera/computer/phone with near-global reach?

1984 was an amazing year. I wonder if Steve will stop and see part of a CHiPs rerun :)

I'm not sure if its an intentional decision for the DC movie universe to try and keep the various film stories far enough apart that they can maintain some type of continuity in a larger plot that connects them all.

Thanks guys, I'm just hoping they use it as an opportunity to explore things rather than just have it set there to be flashy.

I think they want to do two things: (1) flip the "fish out of water" dynamic from the first movie - last time it was Trevor showing Diana about all the weird things in the world and how to live in it, now it will be the reverse; and (2) profit off of people's nostalgia (ha ha, isn't it funny that people used to wear cargo pants!).

Wonder Woman has been a feminist icon since the late 60s. The first film had undertones of that. If Jenkins wanted to explore that, the mid 80s would be an interesting time period.

Variety
Warner Bros. has postponed the release of “Wonder Woman 1984,” the latest development in Hollywood’s rocky plans to return to the movies.

The superhero sequel starring Gal Gadot, which was expected to debut on Oct. 2, will now touch down in theaters on Dec. 25, 2020.

Wow, that’s pretty huge. I thought they’d at least make it VOD on the major services first, then release it on HBO Max after a month or two.

ARGHHHHHHH! I want to see this so badly, but can't get HBO Max and will not go to the theater.

So what are the chances there are limited run engagements once things open back up? I'd see Tenet and this for sure.

The impression I've gotten just from the reviews is that this is a very love it / hate it movie. For some it is a five-star film. For others it is a two-star.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone refer to it as a 5 star film. For the most part, it seems to be getting a resounding “meh” from most critics and in most audience reviews. It’s not horrible, but it isn’t very good either.

Although this critic apparently believes it was created by liberals to bash Trump. Go figure.

I'm 25 minutes in and I don't know if I can continue. The action made me yawn and Kristin Wiig's character is written so poorly that I need Tylenol because of the constant beating into my head that she's not popular.

This was a very bad opening and I have too many entertainment options to stick with this crap.

So many cringe-worthy moments and just stupid dialogue.
The "villians" sucked and action sequences were beyond uninteresting.

We watched it last night.

My first instinct (after the overly long intro) was that they were going for a slightly campy original Superman vibe to mesh with the 1980s theme, and I was down for that. But as the movie went on, I realized the camp was either unintentional, or so poorly executed that it was dragging down the entire movie.

It’s a sprawling mess that should have been cut by an hour. I adore Kristen Wiig but she’s a terrible villain. And while I think Gal Gadot is a fantastic Wonder Woman, I don’t think she’s a fantastic actress.

This may be what happens when you order a Wonder Woman movie from Wish.
