NFL 2022 Season
Because for many of us, 2021 is over. Done. Dead.
The question swirling around here is who is going to be the Bear's next coach...and will they hire a new GM before then?

Re: NFL 2022 Season
I heard this morning the Lions managed to win their way out of the #1 draft pick. From the sound of it 2 and 1 are pretty close to the same this year. That suggests we'll get the worse guy either way. Now the choice is just taken out of our hands.
Also, in still 2021 interest, I hear Stafford gets a home playoff game. That's another monkey off his back. Good for him. Who knows, maybe it will be the Lions year to get home playoff game in 2022. Though I hear, Bears and the Vikings are going to suck badly, and if Rodgers continues being Rodgers, who knows what he'll do to the Packers chances.

Woah - Dolphins just fired Flores! That's nuts - but also good for New England.
Also, Zimmer and the GM are gone from the Vikings and Nagy is gone from the Bears.

Agree on the totally nuts part. They were on the verge of making the playoffs and finished with an impressive win over Belichick. Fortunately I don't like them and this move hurts their chances.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
I am not sure how Joe Judge still has a job after calling back to back QB sneaks coming out of the Giants' end zone yesterday in the second quarter, and after the team averaged less than 10 points a game over its last 8 games, but here we are.

Flores getting fired is a shocker. He will end up somewhere. Zimmer and Nagy I get. In fact the Bears should dump the GM as well.

And Justin Fields and Kahlil Mack. In fact, the Bears should just turn those two players over to the Lions to inflict their pain on the Lions.
...And won't it be funny if Trubisky goes up against Stafford in the Superbowl? And the Rams win. That would just embarrass everybody in the NFC North, except maybe the Vikings.

Unfortunately, I read that Rhule is going to be retained for another year. Maybe he gets a bit of pass due to injuries and a rotating wheel of bad QBs, but the Panthers have generally not been competitive.

Re: pass for injuries, I might have mentioned this already. but I clearly remember during a game before McCaffery's last injury, one of the commentators calling out Rhule for using him so much. He literally said something like "If Rhule keeps using McCaffery on every play like this, he's going to regret bc no one can sustain this level..." And then literally within a few weeks, he got injured and out for season. Might have even been the very next game.Ralph-Wiggum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 2:46 pm Unfortunately, I read that Rhule is going to be retained for another year. I also blame the QB duck-duck-goose game on Rhule. I mean, who else's shoulders should that rest on?

Re: NFL 2022 Season
I haven't followed closely enough to know how many of the QB decisions fall on Rhule or the GM. Certainly who starts and plays falls on Rhule, but getting Darnold and Cam? I'm sure he had input, but I usually lay those decisions on the GM.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:24 pmRe: pass for injuries, I might have mentioned this already. but I clearly remember during a game before McCaffery's last injury, one of the commentators calling out Rhule for using him so much. Would he want the job? Seems like Flores is leaving Miami fairly well-regarded overall, but if he is seen to fail in his next HC job that'll be a major anchor for him. I feel like he's better off waiting for the right gig (re: a HC opportunity that comes with a great QB).
Selfishly I'd like him to return to NE as a defensive coordinator while he waits, but even if that's not in the cards feels like he's better off waiting for the perfect job.

Bears are supposedly set to interview him, but they seem to be casting a wide net. They've got the talented QB, but the team does seem to have . . . other issues.

Steve Belichick is the DC...that's not going to change unless the head coach changes or Steve gets a job elsewhere.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
Perfect job? Hmmm. Not sure those exist. I think most (lots of exceptions of course) HC changes are due to some kind of underperformance at the existing program. Retirement, serious illness or death are some reasons where another head coach could 'inherit' perfection, but it's pretty far outside the norm I think. Point is, he could be waiting a loooooong time if he is waiting for "perfect". From the other side, the expectation in most HC changes is that the new guy, whoever it is, is going to come in and MAKE the necessary changes to do....X. "Fix the QB situation", "make the playoffs", "make it to the SB", etc.El Guapo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 4:15 pmWould he want the job? I guess different coaches have different fortes, but many to maybe most are seen to be, or at least HOPED to be, "fixers" when they come in.

After the previous play of a QB sneak at 2nd and 11.
In any case, a huge sigh of relief that maybe the organization will try to dig itself out of this hole. It'll take years but at least they can bring in a GM who isn't wearing head coach handcuffs.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
Essentially, the only offense the Panthers have had for years is McCaffrey. When he's out, they SUCK. Doesn't matter who the QB is. When he's in, they are good enough to win games. Without? Ouch.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:24 pmRe: pass for injuries, I might have mentioned this already. but I clearly remember during a game before McCaffery's last injury, one of the commentators calling out Rhule for using him so much. We've got a quarterback you might like here in Houston. Not a single scratch on him from the whole season. Are you willing to give up the picks for Watson?

Re: NFL 2022 Season
If I remember correctly, the Panthers had expressed some interest in Watson early this year, but I think there was a lot of pushback from the community. Plus, until his lawsuits are resolved, it's hard to know what sort of punishment he might get from the NFL.

Hard pass on Watson - we've got enough problems OTHER than toxicity to deal with...don't want to introduce that into the mix.

Reportedly, he refused to make changes to his offensive staff including the OC, Tim Kelly. That's great loyalty, but I'm not sure it was wise given the offensive output this season. Still, given a choice of his job or his values, Culley chose his values. I've got to respect that. Kelly was fired as well.Ralph-Wiggum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:08 pmIt's amazing the Texans won as many games as they did with their roster. Seems like a terrible move.
Reporters are linking coaches with New England ties to the Texans including Flores, Jerod Mayo, and Josh McDaniels.

The Texans GM is Nick Caserio, formerly of the Pats - so the interest is pretty predictable.

Re: NFL 2022 Season
I think that McDaniels has suffered blowback from what he did to the Colts. No one has hired him to be their head coach yet. I think that the Texans are a special case because of their GM. With as many good candidates as there are, and as much of a schween as McDaniels is, I’d be surprised if he gets hired anywhere else.
I did see a quote that Caserio said that Culley wasn’t right for the future of their program. I would have liked to have pointed out to him that the Houston Texans aren’t a program. They’re a shit show. Big difference.
