For those who didn’t see it or don’t know: this is an Imperial Mudtrooper from the movie Solo.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Yup, you made a clean sheet of it!

How many outfits do you have now? (PS - looks great, but I haven't had the heart to watch Solo yet, mostly because I'm annoyed they tried to do something with the 12 Parsecs gaffe, and I'm thinking it will only make me more stupid for watching it).

I came in expecting nothing, and enjoyed it far more than I expected to. It's not great, but it's not nearly as terrible as reviews might indicate either.

It's a fun movie and I agree that it's really not as bad as critics try to paint it. The cameo at the end though is pretty grating.

To be fair the cameo was pulled directly from the old expanded universe material. Kudos to them for doing that.

Sure, but for someone who doesn't follow the expanded universe at all, it totally threw me for a loop as the last thing I saw was him plunging to his death and I'm sure I wasn't the only one feeling super confused ;)

My wife put on a good front for the first 9 months or so, but I can tell she really wants to be able to troop in person again.

She's done a few virtual troops in the last year, but they just aren't like being there with her friends, and I know it hurts her more than she lets on.

I also found out as things were getting bad last year that one of her Jawa friends she always just referred to as "Jawa Kate" was in fact an old friend of mine from when I used to do the KC Ren Fest that I hadn't seen in years. Looking forward to being able to reconnect with her once it's safe again.

So, we are coming out of the pandemic finally (at least in terms of trooping activity anyway...). I have just acquired a nearly finished costume and I'm putting the finishing touches on it. I had to order a few things to finish it up, and it needs strapping. Within a few weeks, hopefully, I'll be able to roll this one out.

There are multiple sources:

- RS Propmasters is expensive, but extremely accurate and uses molds from movie used parts
- Troopermaster is a quality place for regular stormtrooper costumes
- Jim Tripon is a medical doctor in SE Asia who does a side business of making flexible fiberglass star wars kits. I have a few of his kits and they are awesome
- Walt's Trooper Factory is also a widely used source for various costumes
- There are also some places popping up that are 3D printing armor now. Check on groups to find out which are accurate enough

There are groups for every costume you might be interested in called 'detachments' that are 501st groups. You can join these facebook groups without being a member of the 501st, and there are a huge number of people willing to help. There are also numerous 'build threads' where people share how they did things, and where they sourced accessories and stuff. Also, the local Garrison (like the Alabama Garrison) is usually happy to help.

Is the material used to make your costumes EVA foam? I made a Halloween mask/helmet for my kid (and pauldrons) and it was amazingly fun (and time consuming).

I actually thought of trying to make some money off it but I assume 3D printers will soon kill off most of the handmade stuff pretty quickly.

Currently making a specialized Fortnite pickaxe, and next up will be a SW blaster. Not sure yet if for fun or profit. Maybe I’ll make two and sell one.

Most people use ABS, a fiberglass mixture, or 3D printed resin parts. The 501st prohibits EVA foam for membership costumes. However, if you are just making a costume for conventions or something and do not intend to join the 501st -- people can make exceptionally accurate stuff with EVA if they know what they are doing.

The thing I like about OO is that we're a relatively grown-up group who can seethe at a person in R&P and talk movies, games, or costuming with them in the next room over. Some of the worst moments in OO history have come when people decided that someone was such a problem that they followed them from subforum to subforum making sure they knew it.

IANAM, but if you don't like someone's politics, tell them in R&P. If you despise them so much that when you see them in a different discussion you can't reply without calling their politics into it, don't reply.

Personally, I have enjoyed this thread quite a bit. I'd rather not see MSD driven away from it (despite how I might feel about his politics.)

Well more power to ya, Blackhawk - that aspect of OO can actually, at times, turn my stomach. I very much like hearing other views and having mine challenged, but that's not the kind of thing that has rubbed me wrong in the past with MSD. As you know full well, I'm more bothered by how he treats us. (ironically)

And it's not because I take politics 'so seriously'... it's because a line has been crossed in this world and this isn't simple R vs D crap that we are talking about. I care about people. All people. Even the MSDs of the world.... but when you suggest I talk politics with MSD in the R&P thread - I will point out that the moment anything like a conversation starts up with them there, they announce they are going to bow out.

I didn't mention politics in this thread. I mentioned pretending to be a Mandalorian vs pretending to be a Stormtrooper. That's on topic. If it looks like maybe I'm being a jerk to MSD, oh - well, ya know, I don't think MSD cares about any of us as much as you are asking me to care about him. If you want, I will point out every time you are being a shithead to Drazzil going forward...

You are right. I will only point out that I would LOVE to engage MSD in the threads I'm enjoying, where he comes in , shits , and then declares himself the victim and leaves... but he's gone. Again, I didn't mention any politics. I spoke about honor...

You left out the part where you said he couldn't be a Mandalorian because Mandalorians require honor with no other commentary. You came into this thread, which had been entirely on topic, with a post that had nothing to do with the topic (theming aside), and served no purpose but to directly insult the poster. In other words, trolling. I could go into how that doesn't compare to my calling Drazzil on his crap in discussions where he's actively spewing that crap, but you'd just find a way to turn that around.

Anyway, I've said my piece, I've argued my point. I'm moving on.

Love the armor, by the way. I have a friend who recently moved to Texas. He and his husband have been very interested in joining the Mandalorian branch of the 501st (I forget the name) since long before The Mandalorian was released. I remember the amount of research they were putting into it - it's a lot more than just throwing on a costume.
