You're not entirely wrong. Stonehenge was never 'lost', and some of the fallen stones only did so (relatively) recently - one around 1800, another around 1900. That 'after' picture could also have been an even earlier 'before' picture.

In Ann Arbor there's an off-campus landmark known as "The Rock," which students frequently repaint and cover with various slogans and graffiti. Layer upon layer has accreted over the years. The Rock (originally a big chunk of limestone) is about five feet high.

When I was in grad school there, a friend used to amuse himself by writing letters to the Ann Arbor newspaper in the voice of a grumpy old resident who hated everything about students and student culture. The paper must have known it was a joke, but they published most of them anyway.

I remember one that began "When I first came to our fair city, The Rock was no bigger than a good-sized pot roast..."
