Solium Infernum lives!

Post by AWS260 »

A modern remake. Will it be as good at a resolution larger than 1024x600? I guess we'll find out!

I was just thinking about this game the other day and what it would take to find the old key(s) and get a copy to play again.

Lord Morris, watching everyone backstab each other and then try to form temporary alliances was the best fun. Playing was tense, watching was hilarious.

Been a while since I played this. Wonder if we're still doing "dropbox turns" or if they've got a little more modern setup this time.

I would play too, even though I never came close to winning.

I don't particularly like the art style of the new one, but I can live with it.

Multiplayer test weekend!
A Solium Infernum Multiplayer Weekend!

This is a massive moment for Solium Infernum! This is THE weekend that you can convince your buddies, family, coworkers, extended family, neighbours – anyone and everyone – to hop in and play Solium Infernum together! If there’s a time to be a Solium Infernum cult recruiter, it is DURING THIS WEEKEND!

Asynchronous will be available but the Multiplayer Weekend is optimised for Sessional Play! It’ll be quite hard to finish any async games before times up. But mark this weekend in the calendar – it’s your time to manipulate your friends! To fill that social strategy void left by Among Us and Werewolf!

The Multiplayer Weekend will be from:
Thu 11 Jan @ 3pm PST until Sun 14 Jan @ 10pm PST!
And...
Solium Infernum is launching on February 14th
!

Is TGB still on these forums? I see him posting in the Solium Infernum game forums a lot and bet he would be up for it.

This is a solid remake that is way more than a facelift. If anything, it makes the game far less impenetrable and removes some of the ways you could make a non-viable demon lord by relying on premades you can "nuance" through artifacts. I loved the character creation but, let's face it, Charisma was far too powerful to allow for a lot of choices. In this one, amount of orders is not tied to Charisma, more orders open up when you get to a certain level of any skill.

This remake is...errr... well worth the ambition.

Also note, they have kept the "PBEM" style of asynchronous MP. From Sport's Illustrated's review
Like in the real Game of Thrones, plans can be very long-term ventures, leading to match times only the most hardcore players will endure in a single session. That’s where Solium Infernum’s asynchronous multiplayer function comes into play. In a throwback to the days in which playing turn-based games via email was the hot stuff, the game combines its system of simultaneous turns with Steam notifications to achieve a similar effect. Players give their orders for the current turn whenever they can and once everybody is done the game resolves all actions in order. A Steam notification is sent out to everyone that the next turn is ready, beginning the cycle anew.

That Sports Illustrated is reviewing Solium Infernum is actually a sign of the end of times, I believe.

I haven't done any pc gaming in awhile, but we had so many great games back in the day.

one thing which gets me - it says 1 of 8 archfiends - does that mean you don't build your archfiend anymore?

Right - they use premades that you can "nuance" with artifacts that add some bonuses. This may feel like a step backward, but is actually a step forward since the old style allowed you to create non-viable archfiends.

It sounds like there'll be 6 of us: baelthazar + the Steam friends he listed + Archinerd + Guapo.

I'm thinking we do a Medium-sized map, Infernal Plains, short game. Maybe a 3-day turn timer, although I'm really hoping people can get their turns in daily when possible.

The side effect of me setting up the lobby is that I got to choose my Archfiend first. Sorry if you all were banking on Belial. :P

Start up a multiplayer game, join using the code and you can choose who you’re playing. Joined today, and it was easy.
