If it's a video game it goes here.

The fact that Google thought this launch video was a good idea sort explains a lot...

The stat is for 1080p60.

60 fps at 1920x1080.

Most Netflix videos are 1080p24.

Also you need real time compression when streaming game. With videos you can compress better because you can take much longer time to do the compression. One hour of video can take several hours to compress and also can be done in more than 1 pass which result in better compression.

What the heck did I just watch? That looks like it was put together by some executives who really have no clue.

I kind of liked the trailer. It was absurd enough to almost be good...almost. I think I might be more intrigued about the dog's adventure than Stadia though. Hopefully there's a sequel from it's point of view.

Maybe the dog's adventures are part of a game that Google themselves are developing. It'd be important to showcase them at some point, although given how rough a launch this has had so far, we have no idea if they'll get that far. The dog did look like he portaled himself into the wall though, which could be a cool way to introduce a game.

If that's a hint at new VR Portal game it would be awesome. I fear it might be VR Scruffy licks himself. With that trailer I could go either way.

So, I got myself a Stadia Buddy pass from eBay and I gotta say that it's been awesome. I haven't updated my desktop computer since 2012 (GTX 560Ti, i5-2500k) and my main laptop is also not a graphics monster (Surface Pro 4). I've found no shortage of games to play on these and so I haven't been able to justify upgrades or buying myself a console. However, I've often wondered how the other half lived . . . enter Stadia! For total cost of $90 and a hardware cost of $0, I've finally gotten a decent frame rate on Destiny 2 and dipped my toes in an Assassin's Creed for the first time.

Are the graphics perfect? No. Is the speed always perfectly sharp? No. But I'm having an absolute blast. I don't mind graphics stutters - I'm used to playing on low! :D And the input lag has rarely been meaningful.

I look forward to Borderlands 3, which I will try first on my Xbox 360 controller, but then shift to mouse and keyboard - because that's my Borderlands comfort zone. The flexibility will be fun for me. (Also, gotta say that buying a game an playing it 10 seconds later is pretty awesome.)

I'm the target market for Stadia. ;)

Is Stadia going to be a big fail?

https://www.bluesnews.com/s/208636/game ... gle-stadia
In other streaming game news, an article on Business Insider talks with some game developers and publishers about Google Stadia and why so many titles are missing from the streaming game service. Similar to many first takes on Stadia, they sum up their findings thusly: "We spoke with game developers and publishers who said there are two main reasons their games aren't on Stadia: Google didn't offer them enough money, and they don't trust the mercurial company to stick with gaming in the long term."

That pretty much says it all. It's kind of a vicious circle. Players want more games in order to be tempted to give it a shot, but developers are nervous about committing to it knowing Google's track record. And less players on the system means less money and incentive for the devs. It just doesn't seem worth the hassle for the added work that the Devs have to do. And another issue not often talked about is that Stadia gets older versions of games. The versions are forked off from the main releases and are often months behind on updates.

If Google can't afford to make games, who can?

They can, they just don’t want to. They’d be better off acquiring an existing studio.

Maybe they can just partner up with Amazon... Oh wait.

I read a comment somewhere that made a lot of sense. Big companies like Amazon and Google seem to expect instant success without understanding development and unwilling to put time into it. It's almost like they don't see it as a long-term investment. Meanwhile you have smaller studios who consistently put out great stuff.

Google is sort of a special case. Their willingness to abandon projects is second to none.

And it's started. Google has demoted Stadia to being a mere technology platform to power experiences from other companies such as Peloton, Bungie and Capcom.

Well yeah, we all knew it was eventually going to happen. It was always a question of when, not if. Even when something is successful, they tend to kill it.
