RIP Christine McVie

Dead at 79.

Fuck. This one hits hard. I'm a huge Fleetwood Mac fan and she always seemed like such a classy lady. Damn.

Oh crap. I was a big FM fan way before the Buckingham/Nicks era, and that was when Christine McVie really stood out as a unique voice and songwriter.

Here is one of my favorites of hers:

Songbird is my favorite song from her. Her and a piano was a beautiful thing on that song.

They are older than I keep thinking they all are. Wasn't all that long ago I remember seeing her and Lindsey making an album.

Another surprising death though as I thought she would outlive her ex John since he had colon cancer those years ago.

RIP

My favorite radio station played this song after breaking the news earlier this afternoon.

Another big Fleetwood Mac fan. This just stinks. Her voice was always so sultry and vulnerable, and harmonized so well with the others’ vocals, not to mention her songwriting. I’ve always loved ‘Songbird’ and ‘Everywhere’.

Damn, this one hurts. I'm kicking myself for not getting tickets to Stevie Nicks last month. Still surprises me how old they are, and not many more chances to see them perform, another great one gone. :-(

I tend to listen to far more classic rock than modern, so it's kind of sad to be witness to that era passing on.

I remember one of the first days I was going to be driving back to college by myself after coming home for the weekend. I stopped at Walmart to get a snack for the trip and on some weird impulse bought Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits. I didn't really know a lot of Fleetwood Mac songs, maybe just a couple here and there. But I needed something to stay entertained for the drive.

I listened to that album twice on the way back to Raleigh and it became one of my absolute favorites. Just loved her voice.
