This one caught me by surprise. Coming February 23 to Steam, PS4 and Switch.
I've been waiting for Octopath Traveler 2, but this may be as good.

Downloading now. The only negative reviews I saw were the price tag of $50. Will come back later with some impressions.

First thought: A little more anime-styled for my liking.
Second thought: Is that Mat Cauthon?

Other than some hair in the face, I would say no.
I don't think so, but who knows.
I am enjoying the combat, especially since you can replay completed missions for exp and loot (which changes for each instance). The weapons appear to be degrading but the "repair" option is grayed out for now. Picked up some stones that allegedly upgrade weapons, but the "upgrade" button is also grayed out.
It's grid based and my general strategy is to move forward just enough to lure the enemies within range. At least with replay you can scratch that shoulda/coulda/woulda itch.

No that it's more than my liking? The young, ultra-beautiful super-model faces, large eyes, and carefully rakish hair screams anime (inspired) to me. I like anime, but I prefer it to be self-contained and not mixed in with everything under the sun.
It's not, but the wide brimmed black hat and spear certainly fit the description. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some inspiration there.

Update: The loot doesn't change on subsequent mission plays, but if you missed anything it is still there.
After mission 3 you get a merchant in camp who also does repairs and upgrades.

Well I finished 6 chapters but hit a wall. There is not enough gold available to keep your weapons repaired. So no weapons, no skirmishes for exp. Won't be continuing unless I use a money cheat.

I finished this, though they tried to make it artificially difficult. I used a money cheat for 200k in gold and used all of it to keep my weapons repaired. There were good weapons available, but if there is insufficient gold for repairs they expect you to complete the game with a rusty dagger? Laughingly, completing the game opened up hard mode. Done and done.
