Trump keeps saying he doesn't remember the woman. It may be true. This sort of thing has happened so many times he's having a hard time remembering them all.

I think the judge was speaking specifically about the Trump case.

You can be sure she testified he penetrated her with his penis.

Then it's just "sexual contact".

He also said repeatedly that she wasn't his type. Yet when he was showed a photo of her in her youth, he ID'd her as Marla Maples -- his second wife. Twice.

Turns out, she wasn't his type, either.

You shouldn’t have bern surprised. Trump really didn’t put up any defense and he was terrible in his deposition. I think this attorney does a really good job laying out why Trump lost:

If Trump had evidence, you would have expected that his lawyers would have been the first to know.

Trump keeps saying he doesn't know Carroll. Maybe Trump has lost his short-term memory from dementia? This woman has been suing him for years, and his lawyers presumably prepped him. But he still confused her with his wife Marla during the deposition!

Then he admitted groping women was unfortunate...or fortunate. All while acting like a smug asshole. Trump has objectively shown himself to be an incompetent idiot in this trial. If he can't defend himself from a "false charge," then he's not qualified to lead America.

I was just reminded that this very stable genius mistook Carroll for Marla when reviewing a photo live on camera during the deposition. Carroll's lawyers had to be stifling the urge to cheer.

From another angle, some outlets have done a good job challenging individual Republicans to go on record about this. I'd call the response largely unsurprising ranging from MAGA cultists like Graham effectively undermining rule of law to Romney (almost solely) calling him an unqualified aberration. Also a small minority of GOP Senators are playing it safe by worrying about electability. Which is as grotesque as it is spineless. Essentially telegraphing they are potentially fine with sexual abuse as long as it doesn't impact electability. It's also a hedge. If he wins then they just pivot back into his favor by sucking up to him. It's grim.

I feel like when the Trump era is finally over — hopefully sooner rather than later — a book needs to be written like Profiles in Courage. But the opposite. It would catalog in detail the cowardice of the GOP in excruciating detail. It needs to be preserved for history.

You mean his grift victims? He probably gets $5mil in a month from the Faithful for just being Trump. I can assure you plenty of boomers send him regular checks to fight the Liberal threat.

This? He sends out one email asking for help in covering legal expenses in his fight against that nasty woman and he’s done in 24-48h.

Posted in one of the other threads, but it's possible he defamed her again in the Town Hall...
E. Jean Carroll May Sue Trump a Third Time After ‘Vile’ Comments on CNN

In an interview, her lawyer said that the former president’s mocking comments in a town hall broadcast could create fresh legal jeopardy.

And done.
. Jean Carroll, who this month won $5 million in damages from former President Donald J. Trump, is now seeking a “very substantial” additional amount in response to his insults on a CNN program just a day after she won her sexual abuse and defamation case.

Ms. Carroll’s filing Monday in Manhattan federal court seeks to intensify the financial pain for Mr. Trump. The jury in her civil case found him liable on May 9 for sexual abuse and defamation. It ordered him to pay Ms. Carroll, a former advice columnist and fixture in Manhattan’s media circles, $2 million for the sexual abuse and $3 million for the defamation.

Monday’s filing came in a separate defamation lawsuit that Ms. Carroll had filed in 2019 against Mr. Trump, 76, which is before the same judge who presided in the civil trial. The older case stemmed from comments Mr. Trump made that year, shortly after she said that he had raped her in a Manhattan department store dressing room in the mid-1990s. That lawsuit had been sidetracked by appeals, but is still pending.

In a separate letter to the judge, Ms. Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta A. Kaplan, revealed with little elaboration that Mr. Trump has threatened to file a lawsuit against Ms. Carroll “in retaliation and possibly to seek sanctions.”

I get the feeling Trump is going to jail for something. Sometime. Soon.

I wish that were true. But it's more likely he's president than going to jail.

We’re about to default and risk economic catastrophe because the GOP is a nihilistic party. That same party is about to nominate for president a man who tried to overthrow the government. The Supreme Court is broken. The 4th Estate has surrendered. The list of shit goes on and on.

But . . . E. Jean Carroll is really sticking it to Trump!

Can’t you just let us be happy about that for a moment? Is that really too much to ask?

I see Trump’s strategy now. Keep talking and she will bd e to keep amending her complaint again and again, so there’s never a final amount for him to pay.

The amended complaint is in a different suit from the one she already won earlier this month.

Well, $83M going to E Jean Carroll is $83M not going to Trump’s campaign. Now, if the verdict is a catalyst for Trump raising even more money, that would be unfortunate.
