The regular season (did I spell that right, Jeff?) kicks off tonight with the hyped up Lions at the Chiefs. I'm not buying it. Wanted to get my picks started, so...

Honolulu Blue Kool Aid is everywhere this week. I'm actually going to watch tonight. Glad it's not a Peacock exclusive like Michigan game was.

I'm basically counting on two key things this season:

(1) The Patriots offense will be much better without Matt Patricia involved; and
(2) The Jets will screw up their opportunities in hilarious fashion.

Neither's guaranteed, but both seem reasonably likely.

As far as I can tell, the Bills are in line for the first overall pick in the draft if I’m following these media narratives correctly. Scored the most points in the NFL over the past three years while also allowing the fewest points to be scored? Apparently that doesn’t matter because they emptied their emotional tank when they watched their teammate die and get resurrected last year. I guess they’re just trash now, and have to get out of the way for the NYJ hype machine.

From what I can gather, Aaron Rodgers has won the last 10 Super Bowls, so the Jets are automatically winning this year despite being a 10 loss team last year when they had a cream puff schedule and got to take a tour of most of the leagues backup QBs.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

That guy made an extra grab at Mahomes' ankle after the tackle was over - annoying. I hate that shit.

That was a pretty impressive first drive by the Lions. The hype is real.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around a world where Mahomes is beaten at home by the Lions.

No penalties of sloppy play. No Patricia playbook. I call that a successful first quarter. That's a first for me in a long time.

They really look good, I'd say. I will warn you that my wife has not turned the game on yet, and that's usually when the Lions start to tank. :D

It was a gift but I'll take it. I can't remember the last time I watched the second game of a season. Sometime around the end of the Caldwell/Mayhew era. I will watch the second game this year.

Overwhelming talk this morning is about Jawaan Taylor. Had KC won, the conspiracy OUTRAGE theory talk would be through the roof. But the point is and should be teams overcome adversity. So congrats, specifically to community local, Hutchinson, who put the pressure on, even as "Taylor lines up as slot receiver and jumps the snap nearly every play of the game."

My biggest problem with the Lions winning, even more so than that they're a division rival to the Bears, is that a lot of my Twitter follows are related to University of Michigan sports, and there's a strong crossover between UM and Detroit sports fans. That means my feed is cluttered with people talking about the Lions as though they're the next '72 Dolphins, and it's really annoying.

But seriously, why were the refs not calling Taylor? It was obvious from the Chiefs first drive that Taylor was lining up WAY too far off the line of scrimmage, and even then, he was false starting on like 50% of snaps. Has anyone heard any explanation for why this wasn’t called once until the last drive of the game?

Well, after a disastrous first quarter where the Patriots turned the ball over in back-to-back plays and went down 16-0 to the Eagles, they (mostly) got their act together and almost won the game late. The defense looked great, and after the first quarter the offense was inconsistent but overall good.

Seems like they should at least be competitive, but next week against Miami will be critical.

That's a real low, if you're counting on the Jets. I'm kind of eagerly waiting for them to disappoint. I always enjoy it when the Jets are bad, which is 95% of the time, but it's especially delicious if they're bad with expectations of being good.

The Jets'iest thing they could do is start out like 6-1 and then finish 7-10.

C'mon Jets, don't let me down.
