I wanted to pass on this great video about how patrol's spawn and how mission map heat is generated. It gave me some great ideas on how to tackle missions in the future. You don't get XP for kills but only for objectives. Check it out:
Yeah, I learned a lot about patrols while playing with Montag. And it makes a difference in gameplay when you play with a group that has a "kill em all" mindset and aggroing all the patrols versus ones that pretend they are a Ghost Recon team and avoiding patrols unless absolutely necessary. Also, I will point out that if you kill the patrol fast enough they don't get to send out an alarm and trigger a bug hole outbreak. Grenade launcher is prefect for this as two hits usually get all the patrol bugs pretty quickly.

Yes you are basically commandos not regular infantry. So that means hit and run, hit and fade and use of artillery in a sensible manner.

Knocking out the bug legs or using a turret or orbital laser to hold off the enemy while you make good your escape is also invaluable. Had a good game with scoop earlier; looking forward to more games. Tragically we did not escape but we did ride a 500kg bomb for liberty like true patriots.

LOL! Yeah we got mobbed at EVAC so I tossed a 500kg bomb thinking we had enough space. We did not. LOL.

Had a great couple of games with random people today. One was with someone on challenging difficulty. He set the pace and we knocked out all the bug holes and cleared all the objectives on the map. I ran with my trusty grenade launcher and it closed up those bug holes pretty quick. We were coordinating even though we didn't speak over voice. He or I would get killed a few times and we were down to 4 reinforcements at the end but we made it.

Then another random game on medium with 3 other people. We also jelled there even though none of us were on voice. Truly memorable moment at the end when we stood behind the Pelican and gave each other hugs. And finally, that same group of people came with me on the 2nd mission - kill 225 bugs. We made it fine to the end when one of them got killed, Pelican was on the ground and an ion storm came up. In true "no man gets left behind" fashion, we waited for the storm to end, threw down a reinforcement, and got on the Pelican as a full 4 man squad. It was awesome.

Missions get more complex as you raise the difficulty. If you get into the meta you start to see the big picture and what each mission you succeed at leads to.

I suggest checking out https://helldivers.io/ to see what planets are currently in play and how that affect the current Major Order from the Earth Command. Also, the Super Earth Galactic War Data Archive does a daily or bi-daily update video that talks about the state of the war and the current Major Order. It helps me with the immersion into the live service part of the game.

For Super Earth!

I really want to try this, but my computer is too old to play. Did the last Helldivers have legs? If it takes me a year before I can play, will the meta game still be there?

Truthfully, I don't see this game winding down a year from now. People will still be playing and you will probably have at least two new enemies to contest with as well.

So the developer introduced a stupid thing in today's patch where your character shows up covered in blood after returning to your ship from a mission.

While the game uses guns and is violent, I was able to compromise that the blood you saw before this change was from shooting up bugs and the automatons just sparked. Now this takes the game in a different direction. If it was green blood to continue the theme of killing bugs it probably be ok. But instead, it's portrayed as human blood and quite gory.

My son is 14 and I have to admit I was well into shooters back when I was his age. I'm more worried when the wife walks into my son's room when he is playing. We've managed to hold most of these types of games off because he mainly plays Roblox and Fortnite, as it's more cartoony than realistic in the setting.

It just sucks because the game out of the "box" didn't have this, and then I let him play, and now they changed without warning.

I checked the settings and couldn't find any options to turn it off. I wish that was an option.

Dude, it is so jarring. I can understand people being like so what the game is bloody mayhem but when you in a battle and there is so much going on you barely notice all the blood but at the match end salutes and there is gobbs of blood everywhere and you wife happens in and WTF are you showing to our precious child you bastard. Yeah I get it.

For those interested in the space opera aspect of our game, a recent development has seen Super Earth successfully eliminate one of its factions, the Automatons. With this obstacle out of the way, High Command has ordered the Helldrivers to subjugate the remaining faction, the Terminids, and relocate them to open range farms where they can be used as a source of E170, a vital resource for our economy. While rumors of a potential third faction attacking Super Earth have surfaced, I remain skeptical. For now, it seems that Super Earth has emerged victorious.

I don't think it's an option yet, but seeing as how it's something added after release, you'd think they'd let you choose between clean or covered-in-gore.

Glad you could jump in the missions my son and I were doing tonight. Join in anytime.

Ya having an option would have been great.

I had a lot of fun last night. So for calling the 2 air strikes on us :D I thought I was calling in my Stalward and that backpack accessory :D It was too late to warn when I realized what I had done.

The friends feature is pretty clumsy, but I’m having fun. I’ve gone from following someone of a higher level to being able to coordinate with others. Now if I could just stop stepping in fire, getting hit by rockets or just jump away from spit….

Even just a little flame is too much with the last patch.

And not being able to swim is bullshit.

Still don't have a good handle on this adding friends the hard way in Helldivers. Sigh.

Steam or PS5? Either way you can generate your friend code number in the Social area or I think enter a friend code. If Steam, then Steam friends should already be available.

Two thumbs up on the new Helm's Deep defense missions against the bots. My son and I did a bunch at difficulty 7, and just had a blast.

So close to being fully upgraded. Less than 30 medals and less than 30 orange samples and everything is unlocked. Greatly enjoying this game. I have been able to play with my daughter, brother, and nephews. User name is Montag. I would be glad to help lower levels and take the lower levels on higher difficulty - no promise of success though ;) I usally play lower levels to get the daily minor order.
