Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 a go
Screenwriter is trying to get Michael Keaton back.
And also it is a sequel NOT a reboot.

Sounds like it could be fun. Michael Keaton recently got quite a bit of good press for his part in Birdman, so nows the time to do it.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

It will be interesting - Winona Ryder was a huge part of the charm of the original though...

I'd say she stole the show.

Back when you could grab your crotch and say the F word and still get a PG rating. I think it's also funny how the movie is titled Beetlejuice because studio executives thought no one would know how to say his real name - Betelgeuse. If you're paying attention during the cemetery model scene, you can verify the way Tim Burton wanted it spelled.
Such a great film. Michael Keaton owns that role.

Great flick, and one of the few where Alec Baldwin was not an insufferable ass. A rare gem indeed.

I read somewhere awhile back that Winona Ryder said she'd definitely be in for a sequel.

News
While rumblings have been going for a while about a sequel, including a supposed confirmation from Winona Ryder, there hasn’t been a serious green light. That all changes today as Tim Burton has confirmed himself that not only is Beetlejuice 2 confirmed to move ahead, it’s also bringing back Ryder AND Keaton!
Burton tells Showbizspy the following:
The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Damn. I was hoping for a reboot with Melissa McCarthy in the role of Beetlejuice. ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon/sad.gif)

This looks like it got missed the first time around, so I'll just acknowledge its existence now.

Re: Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 a go
Seems to be a no-go; probably for the best:
When USA TODAY asked Burton what’s going on with the Beetlejuice sequel during an interview for Dumbo, he mumbled, “Nothing, nothing.”
But is Beetlejuice 2 going to happen?
“I don’t know. I doubt it,” Burton said, and waved off further questions.

Re: Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 a go
I’ll be the wet towel. Winona Ryder has annoyed me since Stranger Things. She just overacts…and not in a good way. And I’m at about 98 percent Jenna Ortega capacity. She doesn’t need to be in everything Zandeya isn’t in. Give someone else a chance.
That being said, I always welcome some Michael Keaton. And Burton still makes me look forward to his movies. So I’ll probably see it.

I've in no way reached capacity on Jenna Ortega. It would be akin to reaching capacity on Salma Hayek

As the flavor of the month Ortega leaves a good taste in my mouth, or at least I imagine that she would. But I'm a Catherine O'Hara guy myself.

I want to be excited for this, but that trailer didn’t do much for me. Feels like they’re simply recycling jokes and set pieces in a “Hey, remember when we did this? That was funny.” sort of way.
Hoping that’s just what they chose to show in the trailer to pull on the nostalgia threads.

Re: Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2 a go
Yeah I was slightly underwhelmed by the trailer, but unless it just gets completely trashed in reviews I'll be there.
I'm kind of with hepcat on Winona Ryder. I loved her in the 80s, and I tolerated her in Stranger Things because her character was supposed to be a bit unhinged. And then I realized her Stranger Things performance is just actually how she is now. But you can't have a Beetlejuice sequel without her so I'm fine with it.
I can't think of a better choice for a Tim Burton movie than Jenna Ortega (particularly in a post-Wednesday world), so I'm fine with that. She's in everything, but I really like her so along with Pedro Pascal, she gets a free pass.
Overall I'd say I'm not blown away, but I'm still erring on the side of cautious optimism. I'm hoping the trailer is being restrained in its showcasing of Beetlejuice himself, and Keaton is going to make all the difference.

I'm not a big Tim Burton fan to begin with and the first movie doesn't hold much nostalgia for me. I was too young to understand most of it when I saw it, but I just saw it as a creepy movie.

You are all dead inside. Winona’s weirdness is an essential part of Betelgeuse. I was surprised how well it translated on stage, and I’m hoping more onscreen will also be good.
