Notes from the latest update:

UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS
#### Creations are here! Creations are now available in Starfield. What does that mean? You can now access and play new content in Starfield. Creations may include new missions, gear, skins, weapons, and more! You’ll also find Bethesda Game Studios Creations including one of the new Trackers Alliance missions, The Vulture. You can find Creations via the in-game menu. For those of you who own Starfield's Premium Edition, you will also find 1000 Creation Credits within this menu.
If creating your own content for Starfield is something that interests you, you may also now download the Creation Kit for Starfield on Steam. Note, this is a separate download from the game download and is only available on Steam.
#### Trackers Alliance Missions Available New missions have been added to Starfield as part of this update. Trackers Alliance establishes the first of several missions enabling you to live your best bounty-hunting life. The first mission, The Starjacker will have you in contact with a mysterious Tracker located in settlements throughout the Settled Systems. From there, let the hunts begin!
The second Trackers Alliance mission, The Vulture is available within the new Creations menu. And what bounty hunter is without their trusted methods to get the job done?
#### Bounty Scanning and Mission Boards! This update also introduces the bounty scanner system that enables you to seek and destroy (or peacefully resolve...?) those targets with bounties on their heads. If you still want more, you can also check out the Elite Trackers Alliance mission board.
#### Armed and Ever Ready! Those of you who appreciate being extra crafty may now find new melee weapon tiers and the ability to modify melee weapons when crafting. For those that prefer the firepower approach, ammo crafting has also been added with this update. You can research your preferred ammo at a Research Station and craft them at an Industrial Workbench!

Is the creation kit actually on Steam yet? I can't see it, even after restarting the Steam client.

I sorted it out. I was expecting it to be showing up in my library either under software or tools. It finally occurred to me to search for it in the store, and I found the entry for it there (I guess that's what Daehawk linked?), which allowed me to add it to my library. In my dotage I have no memory of needing to do that with Skyrim or Fallout 4.

Right after my first Skyrim mod. It's traditional for me to install the mod tools and never do anything substantial with them. The only thing I can remember actually using was a tiny tweak to Fallout 4's survival mode that changed the damage back to the standard level while keeping the other survival mechanics, because I got frustrated at constantly being killed by everything.

I am currently annoyed with Bethesda over the surprise announcement of the foreshortened Fallout 76 season, so I will take this opportunity to point and laugh at the fact that the community bug-fix patch is now hosted in the Creation store in-game.

Full disclosure: The community patch is free and is not being monetized by anyone. I don't know if it will be kept up to date with the version hosted on Nexus, though. Still for casual players like me, with my meager 500 hours played, who don't normally use a lot of mods from Nexus, it does at least make it simple to download the mod.

Still, it does sort of highlight how Bethesda can't be bothered to fix well-known and documented bugs, even when it is all laid out for them in their own mod ecosystem.

Why is Starfield recently reviewed stats on Steam listed as Mostly Negative and all reviews as Mixed?

Is it bad or is there some form of bad review protest or something?

If you actually read the negative reviews, you'd be able to answer your own question. The current trend seems mostly due to backlash against the Creation Club stuff that was released recently.

It looks like the Shattered Space DLC has a release date: 20 Sep 2024.

Additionally, there is a new update out now. In addition to breaking all your 3rd party mods, it adds a land vehicle to the game.

I doubt that it will break all your mods. Updates typically just cause problems on those relying upon the script extender. That said, it’s no big deal, the creators usually have a new one out in a day or two. This happens to mods for every update for every missable BGS game. Welcome yo modding!

New Starfield patch:

What is huge about this patch is that BGS finally got rid of their mod limit. Now you can add as many mods as you want, at least until you introduce too much instability. But this is pretty huge for those of us that like to play with a lot of mods.

I'm getting it that way as well. But I am excited to play it. I think what I like most is that the expansion takes place on 1 planet. So I'm hoping the planet is a lot more fleshed out than the other Starfield planets. More to do, more to see, almost like the planet is a character itself, rather than just a generic setting like the other planets in the game. At least that's my hope anyway.

There are at least 50 locations to travel to. And everything is handcrafted. And I think all/most of that is in the trailer :)

The craziest part of not only this DLC but also the modding community is people can take an entire planet and make a full damn game. I mean, 50 locations on a single planet is crazy, and if there is a coherent story tying them all together, this could (almost literally) be a game-breaker. Seeing as there's 1000's of planets and moons, Bethesda could have an updated list of planets claimed by modders so people could know what would or wouldn't break others mods. Some of the mods I've seen with other Bethesda games are just as good if not better than the original (I'm looking at you, Enderal for Skyrim!), so I know there could be some incredible stuff out there.

Claiming 'real estate' has become a common thing in the top-tier of the Bethesda modding community, and there have been projects in the past to track who has claimed what.

That's pretty cool. I'd be interested to see what could be done on a planet-wide scale. And could two people claim hemispheres on the same planet? "I'll take the north and you take the south!"

It's more likely that people would divide up the planets more than that - a specific planet chosen, that planet's map laid out, and regions lined off. I would, however, expect full mod teams to claim full planets.

The idea is more to avoid conflicts than anything else (like two different quests using the same door to go to two different locations, or two different mods placing structures on the same spot.) Of course, a lot of the one-off modders are never aware of these things, and some don't bother with them. Which is why it's important to read compatibility info on well-done mods. They'll state outright if there's a mod known to conflict with theirs, and may offer a patch to make them work together (say, by moving the 'entry' trigger to a different door.)

I was looking to see what Shattered Space would cost me and it seems I bought some edition that includes the DLC so I guess I'll be playing it.

Next I reinstalled Starfield to see if I could remember how to play and decide if I wanted to start a new character or continue with my first playthrough. It looks like I quit after resetting progress (NG+???) so it was kind of like starting over but also level 134. :P On the other hand, the game seems more broken than when I played it at release. Planet textures don't load when I am in space, the placeholder is kind of amusing (You should not see this!). I have to struggle to get prompts for docking Bonus I don't remember much of anything and I recently did a playthrough of No Man's Sky and they are similar enough that it is makin git harder to remember/figure out how to do things in Starfield.

I like some of the new options, taking an xp hit to give vendors more money and my character more carry capacity is fine when I'm level 100+ and don't really need any more levels.

I started up the expansion yesterday and got about 2 hours into it. So far I like what I'm seeing. It actually feels more like a Bethesda game in that there is one main location with a ton of NPCs who have missions for you. There is no planet jumping, which is a nice relief. So far so good. I haven't really explored the new planet yet though, so no idea how dense it is. I'm really hoping for a Fallout in space type of density to objects and locations in the world, but we'll see.

Once you are on the planet, can you leave though to do other main game missions? Or are you bound until you beat it? I booted it up last night after putting it on the shelf months ago. I had to go online to figure out how to start the DLC.

Probably my biggest disappointment with the expansion so far is the actual look of the new planet. The color, lighting, and hue are strange. The exterior of the planet is this purple pinkish color and it's just not very pleasing to my eye. It's hard to describe and may seem like a weird nit-pick, but if the expansion takes place on one planet with tons of new had crafted locations to explore I would at a minimum ensure that the planet was aesthetically pleasing. Maybe it's just me though and other people like the look of it.

Apart from that complaint I'm enjoying the new content and the storyline. The enemy AI has been bumped up from the base game which is nice and there are a ton of side quests and content. So it should keep people busy for a while.
