I've got it and I'm very impressed, most of all because all of the previous DLC and user-made content is compatible with the new engine.
Plus, as a current owner of CMANO, I got 50% off.
One note, though: the above images of inset windows showing 3-D action are only possible with the 3rd-party TacView program (a tool for flight-sim enthusiasts). It's a separate product with a separate price (something like $69 for the required Advanced version). I play without it, and I think they should advertise without it.

Thanks for posting any impressions, I'm busy with other stuff right now but I plan to get it sometime. And I agree with you about their use of TacView without mentioning it is a separate purchase.

They do mention it here and there (and I think at the point of sale), but the screenshots floating around aren't able to make the distinction.
Hmm, I don't think I would pay for the game then pay for another bit of $$ for software that shows me purple airplanes. Why can't they just do what Fleet Command did? Was perfect..
Before starting this review I need to declare an interest. I’ve been playing naval wargames on computers since Harpoon appeared in 1989 (as long ago as that – I couldn’t believe it when I looked it up!) I bought CMANO when it first came out, at full price, and have never regretted it – I absolutely love the game. When I heard that a new version of CMANO, Command Modern Operations (CMO), was being released I was over the moon. I’ve now had a chance to play a review copy of the game and while I’m still excited about the new version, I’ve also a few niggles with it.

Fleet Command (and NWAC) lives and dies by its 3D graphics. CMO without Tacview's 3D is still a solid game on its own.
As an aside, WarfareSims does not get any percentage from Tacview sales (Tacview is developed & sold by Raia Software). We added support for Tacview on the commercial edition only because a lot of our users requested it.

We understand that many people are puzzled (and some actively upset) about the separate purchase requirement, and we ourselves pushed very hard for a turn-key package deal, but sometimes things don't go the way you want them no matter how hard you try.

Oh, nothing against the devs or Matrix on this, it's nice they do have this add-on. I don't hold anything against them for it.
It's also nice that the discount you get if you previously owned CMANO extends until almost the end of January.

Is this enough of an upgrade over CMANO to justify the price tag? I missed out on the 50% off deal so I'm a bit wary of spending that amount of cash if there haven't been significant improvements.
Dimitris, I finally picked this up and I'm enjoying it a lot. But there's already one thing I really, really want - an option to stop the game pausing when I look at the DB viewer for example. It drives me mad!
For those who don't follow the CMO newsfeeds, they are soon to release a major update to the game. It is called War Planner and it is pretty impressive. Here is a link to the first of the articles explaining what it is: Countdown to War Planner: Overview. They have since released four new articles with lots more details. A snippet from the first article:
It’s finally coming!
After nearly a year of frantic, tireless development, and an extensive public beta, we are excited to announce the imminent public release of the biggest update in Command’s history (yes, even exceeding the gargantuan changes of the CMANO-to-CMO transition): The War Planner update.
Known tongue-in-cheek to beta testers and early adopters as the “Tiny” release (as it has been anything but), the War Planner update brings dozens of super-major feature additions (including some features previously restricted to Professional Edition), hundreds of simulation improvements, and myriads of tweaks and bug fixes to rival even the launch of Command: Modern Operations in sheer scale. It has been named as such, because many of the changes and new features are oriented towards giving players an unprecedented power and flexibility in organizing and automating complex operations that previously required a lot of manual work and tedious coordination. Waging elaborate, theater-wide multi-domain operations has never been easier.
And the best part? It’s all completely free.
To get a taste of what’s to come, following is a highly-compressed summary of the major features of this colossal update. These will be elaborated in much greater detail in forthcoming [now released - jzt] articles.

Command’s “War Planner” update (aka “Tiny”) is set to release just a few days from now. Are you ready for Command’s biggest update yet?
In this multi-part series we take a look at the various key features introduced in this massive, FREE upgrade to Command.
We have already seen in sequence the “headline” major new features of this release; this time turn or attention to various smaller-scale but still critical additions & improvements on the simulation engine, who altogether raise the fidelity and power of Command as a wargaming and simulation tool to new heights.
This article concludes our pre-release coverage of the War Planner update and its major enhancements. We would like to thank everyone who assisted in the public beta of this massive release and provided useful feedback. You have been very much a part of this update – so enjoy it!

I got this game awhile back. It is complicated and I haven't started it yet. Give me some action reports to encourage me!
I think I payed $30 for it last year.
Update. 12.7 gig update! It'll take till tomorrow!

I can't get any of the tutorials to work. Can't find anything on their forums about it either. <sigh>
Did you try this webpage? The first two links take you to some good tutorial videos.
UPDATE: I see that this is the webpage that the game directs you to from in-game. They work for me. Also there are the tutorial scenarios which probably are better for walking a person through the basics, at least I think so. Anyway, see if those work.

I hadn't actually fired up CMO in a long while and I'd forgotten how freaking complicated everything is . But just like in my old wargaming days, the best thing is to go through the tutorial scenarios and let them hold your hand through the basics.

Well, it's been a year and time for me to install the game again and try to make my brain think it is twenty years younger and I can figure out how to play this game

FWIW, even though there are tutorials for weird complex processes like loading cargo or launching amphibious landing craft, you can happily skip them unless you really want to try that kind of specialized scenario.
95% of the game is knowing about patrol orders, sensors, and weapon settings. You can play a hundred scenarios without even having to learn something slightly more complex like aerial refueling.
Same same. And you can get a DLC bundle from Fanatical for cheap. Ask me how I know. Just remember not to add the Northern Inferno DLC. Or do, I’m not a cop.
