Just finished Squid Game Season 2. I mostly enjoyed it, but thought it went too "hollywood blockbuster" towards the end (the big climactic scene is just flat-out bad). The new characters are great (even if a couple seem protected by plot armor) and they did a really great job building the relationships throughout. As in the first season, the games themselves are insanely tense.

Two things I didn't like and an observation:
Spoiler:
- I never like cliffhanger endings, and this one was no different
- The whole "search party" storyline took too long and basically went nowhere.

I didn't realize until I read up after the last episode that Young-Il (the guy who betrays Gi-Hun at the end) is actually the Front Man. It was obvious that something was off about him, but I didn't recognize him from the first season.
Overall, I'd give it a B+

Regarding your first spoiler
Spoiler:
we had no idea it would end on a cliffhanger hanger. It took us completely by surprise and we were super pissed about it

Anyone else watch The Diplomat? I just finished Season 2 and really enjoy it.

All 155 Movies and Series Blocked On Netflix’s Advertising Tier (March 2025)
Launched in November 2022, Netflix’s ad tier notably had a few drawbacks. The biggest was that many big titles, including Netflix Originals, were unavailable to watch and were and continue to be blocked out. When the ad tier first launched, 5.1% of titles were unavailable (326 out of the 6,324 available). A few months later, it was 5.4% of the library (348 titles out of 6,444 available) in February 2023. On February 7th, 2024, only 175 titles were unavailable on the Netflix US library, representing a 50% decrease year-on-year. As of December 2024, the percentage has reduced again with 151 titles, representing 2% (a fall from 2.1% in November 2024) of the overall library of 7,381 titles.

Why the drop in December 2024? The majority of the interactive specials from DreamWorks were unavailable in the ad tier and were all pulled on December 1st.

Who are the big holdouts still? The most significant two, just like last year, are Universal and Sony. In the case of Universal, it’s their TV output, with most of that being their vast library of DreamWorks Television shows that have come exclusively to Netflix. In Sony’s case, it’s their movies that are unavailable. That includes their first-window titles, which come to Netflix following their theatrical run or from their vast array of back catalog.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

So the percentage of unavailable titles in the ad-supported tier is falling because they're being pulled from Netflix outright? Am I understanding that correctly?

We finished "Zero Day" last night.

That's six hours of my life I'll never get back. I enjoyed it at times but it was ~3 hours of content stretched over six episodes.

And now that Netflix is $25 a month we're going to cancel until Stranger Things.

Guilty Men to be Judged, episode 6, was awesome.

Just watched it today. It's got this weird 90's Spielberg-like quality to it in the first half. It's kind of a fun movie, but it's quite a mismatch in visual design.

Electric State is based on Simon Stålenhag's amazing retro-future artwork.

I'm not surprised that they couldn't make it work as an adventure or whatever. The art is powerful precisely because it is so enigmatic. It asks you to make up your own story.

Yeah, that's probably the most unique thing about it. And for me, part of the curiosity was in where it would all go. It kind of makes me think of the art you would find in amusement parks and fun fairs which is always full of color and exaggeration, and what would happen if characters such as those escape those confines. I think the main problem with this movie is that it doesn't even set up its alternate history scenario very well, and when the story with the robots comes into play, it really asks you to suspend disbelief especially with the way they're designed. It's very much style over substance in this case.

It’s not a great movie, but I enjoyed it. I’m surprised at the horrible reviews. It’s certainly better than most of the Transformers, Underworld and Resident Evil movies that are scored higher than it on rotten tomatoes.

Yeah, agreed, I think the visual design actually helped set it apart and made it really unique. It actually reminded me of some of Neil Blomkamp's movies in some way. A combination of District 9 and Chappie. I know many didn't like Chappie, but I did like how it was almost a remake of Short Circuit.
