Pay It Forward Freebies -- I

Postby setaside » Wed Oct 13, 2004 6:48 pm

Pay It Forward Freebies - To play PIFF, all you need to do is claim a free game that someone has offered up. That person sends the game to you. That's where the "Freebie" part comes in. It's that simple. Oh yeah ... one catch ... for every game you claim from someone else, you MUST offer up one game to the freebie list. That's where the "Pay It Forward" comes into play. Some people offer up multiple titles thus creating karma which can be used at a later date. If you offer up multiple titles, please keep track of what your karma is. As you claim games, reduce your karma by 1 point for each game taken. When you hit zero, you MUST offer up a game for the next title you take. That's it. It's all on the honor system but know that if you abuse the system, the Octopus Overlords WILL find you and string you up by your unmentionables, carve you open and eat your insides.

My Freebies

I'll post my freebies momentarily.

You put up free games. People claim them. We had a karma system where for every game you put up (claimed or not) you got a karma point. When you claimed a game it reduced your karma by one. Sorta an honor system but people do notice those who are abusive of the system. Basically look at it as a way to spread some gaming love and if you get something you want out of it, it's just gravy. ;)

I'll put up Age of Wonders 2 if anyone wants it.

Edit - I pulled Civ 3 off the list due to getting the hankering to play it again. I blame Pope Hat.

Can I share the freebies I have up for grabs between this site and consolegold? I sure would like Horse Racing Manager but my available freebies are listed on the other site.

unofficial answer: The two sites aren't affiliated - you are free to post your list at both sites. If someone makes a claim, you just pull it off of both lists.

I personally am not fond of maintaining lists on both sites simply because it's too easy for your karma to get out of balance that way.

Say you put up 3 games here AND at CG. Essentially you have +3 karma at each site. Someone here claims one of your games. You then need to go remove it from CG taking your karma there down to +2 since that game is no longer available but of course it's possible that nobody there saw your game get taken here so you could theoretically keep your +3 there and no one would know until they tried to claim that game only to find out that it's already taken. Seems like a lot of work to me. If you're up to it though ... knock yourself out.

This is of course all subject to change if we come up with a more automated system for it.

I wish I could afford the shipping and handling to put a freebie or two up, but I'm just that broke.

Ugh. I'm with Setaside. I'd rather you didn't just because it leads to some housekeeping problems.

goldenember wrote:I sure would like Horse Racing Manager but my available freebies are listed on the other site.

You could always post in the CG freebies thread that you'd like to withdraw GameX from the list. Then post it here. I'll update the list and that'll take care of it.

I'd claim some, but I don't want negative karma. Is that really a bad thing to you guys, or would you REALLY prefer that I put something up?
