WinXP abd Wallpaper problems

Ok.. what stupid setting did my father hit? I'm trying to diagnose this long distance and I have a WinME machine....

Up until last night, while playing around, the preview function of wallpaper worked fine. Now, the only preview available are for BMP files. The JPGs et al. generate a blank preview panel (in the little image of the monitor.) Setting the background to the JPG is fine.

Any ideas?
