Hey guys,
My xbox 360 is on the way and I have decided to go the way of xbox live this time. I just bought a dlink 604 router to hook up and I am going to run cat5 down through the floor instead of going the wireless router. I've never had to utilize a router before - the setup looks simple enough on setting it up and cloning the mac address and all that. My question is for xbox live. Is it as simple as connecting the cable for xbox or will I need to do a router configuration and open any specific ports?
General Xbox360 router/xbox live question

First off, I'll be a prick and point out that routers don't block ports. Firewalls block ports. But that's neither here nor there.
In your case, you bought a router with a firewall built-in. You shouldn't have to do anything else other than plug the 360 into the Dlink because you bought an Xbox Live-compatible device.
Worst case scenario, you'll need to upgrade the firmware on the device. You can find more information about that here:

Most likely though, you won't have to do that. It should be pretty painless.
