I wouldn't buy a used one either, unless I planned to immediately upgrade to a bigger memory stick. In that case, I'd get the used one (assuming it was in good condition) and get an extended warranty on it for 20 bucks, leaving 30 to put on the stick. Incidentally mem stick prices finally dropped at Gamestop for the 1G and 2G sticks. Hopefully they'll drop further when Sony releases the larger sizes.
