Best pure adrenaline action games?

Post by Tscott »

Forget stealth and mission objectives and figuring out what points/upgrades to add to your character.

What are the best games that just throw everything at you and let you blow them up?

I'm thinking

Doom
Doom 2
Serious Sam: The 1st Encounter
Serious Sam: The 2nd Encounter

and...??
She's the puzzle piece behind the couch that makes the sky complete.

there are very few games that get my blood pumping like Unreal Tournament 2004. there are few things i find more exciting in a game than trying to capture the flag in CTF, making a break for the goal in Bombing Run, or playing a Double Domination on the Conduit map.

of course i think the most tense moments have been our 1-on-1 ILMS matches during tourneys on zaxxon's server. two guys hunting each other in an arena where one shot kills is the ultimate in adrenaline-pumping action 8)

Europa Universalis played on medium speed. Keeping up with those popup windows is akin to a rousing game of Whack-a-Mole.

Burnout 3 and Half-Life 2. Burnout just because the speed is so amazing and Half-Life 2 because the immersion is so incredible there are some point I have to step away from the computer.

Robotron and SmashTV from the old arcade days would have me actually break a sweat for some reason. Grueling games once you learned the basics and didn't die right away.
This is not the sig you are looking for.

Halflife 2-for its excellant immersion, well designed levels, never a dull moment.

Blackhawk Down, for recreating the raw feeling of exposure to death from anywhere of a team down in hostile territory.

System Shock 2, for being kept on the edge of your seat.
You can run, but you'll just die tired.

Armed and Dangerous. Sending Landsharks at enemies while shooting Vindaloo missles at them is pure violent bliss!

UT2k4

Some of the battles in Rome: Total War were great. Not much compares to being totally out numbered, having a rather weak army in comparison (Lots of Calvery vs Spearmen, calvery, and archers), and then ending the battle with a win.
If I had a sig, would you read it?

Ambulance,

I tried the Crimsonland demo and loved it, but I haven't bought the full version. Do you have it, and if so, how is it?

i purchased the full game. very much worth it - i have to say that i've now 'beaten' it several times, on normal and HARDCORE!! settings, which is more often than pretty much any other game i've played - every patch released for it keeps adding new stuff. it is super fun and i highly recommend the full game purchase. some of the weapons you unlock later into the game do insane amounts of damage, but you'll need them, as some of the new Act V levels on hardcore difficulty require more than a bit of luck and skill to get past..

The original Mass Destruction was pretty cool.

An updated version with better visuals, and more shit to destroy, would be just about perfect.

Burnout 3

Max Payne 2, a unrecognised classic.

Duke Nuke'em 3d.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. I've long since gave up trying to complete either game, and just drive around like a mad man trying to escape any many police as possible. GTA 3 is great for this, with all the amazing jumps.
