Multiple reinstalls of Steam and the SILVER package across two PCs with no problems. Broadband is my Master.

I've got broadband and I haven't had a single problem with Steam or HL2.

As I've stated before, i have broadband, had no troubles with it, but loathe it anyway because of the ten-years-in-the-future installation thing. Also, imagine the mess if EVERY game used such a scheme.

No problems, but I will be moving this to General - Steam is really a utility common to several different games - from a modern install of Half-Life, to HL2, to the various flavors of Counterstrike.

I neither "hate" Steam nor have had "no problems" with it. Generally it's run fine for me but occasionally I just want to boot up HL2 for a bit and it says "Preparing to play Half Life 2" and then hangs fire for a while.

Preparing to play? Preparing to play? Fuck you, preparing to play! I don't have to "prepare" to play Half Life 1, mofos...

Aw, c'mon. Where's the horde of people that hate Steam because it destroyed their systems, mind controlled their family and ate their dog?

In my world, steam is:

- the best way to cook clams.
- the hot room where I sit before the lovely Asian masseus takes me away for a happy ending.
- a song by Peter Gabriel.

I have no problems with steam in any of these incarnations.

Your poll doesn't really have any middle ground. I neither hate nor love steam, but I'll choose hate since I've had some serious issues with it. Again it's perfect if you're on broadband, but there are some real problems with it that could easily be addressed for dialup users. A simple patch could make it fine for us dialup users, but apparently that isn't in the works.

Not a problem for me, but I'm pretty sure that's a lot of people have had problems using it. But then I have broadband. I wouldn't like to have to install a different Steam for every game I buy though.

Broadband, modest PC and no problems.

Your posts is why. I'm tired of talking about how much of a pain in the ass steam was only to have my statements distorted and belittled.

I only had one problem with it, when it started freezing as soon as I hit any button on the main menu. That was really annoying, but fixed wtih a reinstall. Of course I have broadband, if I didnt I would have been royally pissed.
