Las Vegas Shooting averted!
A potential mass shooting in Las Vegas was thwarted thanks to an ex-girlfriend’s call to authorities, police said.

Jeremy Schumacher, 41, was arrested last week and charged with making a threat....

...Counterterrorism detectives said they were able to confirm much of what the woman had reported in her call.

“Detectives located an AR-style rifle, a massive cache of armor-piercing bullets, high-capacity magazines, a grenade launcher, and military-style flash bangs, distracts, smoke generators and other items,” the police report said.

And then I go on to find out it’s a gay bar. I got scared, ‘Shit, is he gay?’ And he’s not gay, so I said, phew… I am a conservative Republican.”

“His mother told me he changed his name because I was in (reality tv show) Intervention and I had been a porno actor,” Mr Brink told CBS8.

He had continued to believe that his child was dead until six months ago, when he got a call out of the blue from Aldrich.

According to Mr Brink’s account, Aldrich was “pissed off” and wanted to “poke at the old man”.

He went on to say he taught his child how to fight at a young age and “praised him for violent behaviour”.

“I told him it works. It is instant and you’ll get immediate results,” Mr Brink told CBS8.
He avoided conviction in 2021 due to family members dodging subpoenas.

Aldrich, 22, was arrested in June 2021 on allegations of making a threat that led to the evacuation of about 10 homes. The documents describe how Aldrich told the frightened grandparents about firearms and bomb-making material in the grandparents’ basement and vowed not to let them interfere with plans for Aldrich to be “the next mass killer” and “go out in a blaze.”

Aldrich — who uses they/them pronouns and is nonbinary, according to their attorneys — holed up in their mother’s home in a standoff with SWAT teams and warned about having armor-piercing rounds and a determination to “go to the end.” Investigators later searched the mother’s and grandparents’ houses where they found and seized handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, body armor, magazines, a gas mask and a tub filled with chemicals that make an explosive when combined, documents show.

A sheriff’s report said there had been prior calls to law enforcement referring to Aldrich’s “escalating homicidal behavior” but did not elaborate. A sheriff’s office spokesperson did not immediately provide more information.

The grandparents’ call to 911 led to the suspect’s arrest, and Aldrich was booked into jail on suspicion of felony menacing and kidnapping. But after Aldrich’s bond was set at $1 million, Aldrich’s mother and grandparents sought to lower the bond, which was reduced to $100,000 with conditions including therapy.

The case was dropped when attempts to serve the family members with subpoenas to testify against Aldrich failed, according to Allen. Both grandparents moved out of state, complicating the subpoena process, Allen said.

In other news, a few weeks ago we had an incident in the neighborhood where a drunk patron was tossed out of a bar with his girlfriend because they brought in their own bottle of whiskey. He proceeded to go across the street, get a gun out of a car, and was going to shoot the place up. This was on an NFL Sunday at around 6:30pm, crowded bar, crowded street. Fortunately he was too drunk to work the slide and just stood outside ejecting rounds until he got frustrated and pistol-whipped a bystander who promptly took him to the ground (the mug shots are priceless). I still can't get too detailed because our cameras are involved in the investigation but suffice it to say that but for his drunken inability to chamber a round properly, there would very likely have been another mass shooting.

The bar is a neighborhood cornerstone. I know the owner well, I frequent the place with my family, and was in there the night before.

Oh, and I'm meeting with a detective today to hand over video of an unrelated armed carjacking a few blocks away from last week. Fun times.

We've had two incidents in the past week that thankfully turned out to be hoaxes.

In the first one, a guy called 911 impersonating a local high school teacher saying that there was an active shooter in the school and describing in detail how many were shot, etc. He stayed on the phone with 911 an HOUR while the police went through the entire ordeal of determining there was no actual threat. Not sure if they caught this guy.

In the second one, a 12-year old kid called and claimed an active shooter at a local middle school. He *was* caught and arrested.

It really sucked because my kids got put on lockdown twice between those two incidents. Not to mention the scare factor knowing my wife and kids were at nearby schools.

Elsewhere:
Police said Parsons-Salas was at Vera Lounge for Mariah Vera's birthday party when he was asked to leave. Police said he shot the four victims at point blank range.

"I don't want to go into too much detail on the horrific way these people were killed, but it was heartless," CPD Supt. David Brown said.

He said he hopes Parsons-Salas stays behind bars for good.

"Whatever process goes forward, bond, court, etc., throw away the key," Brown said. "Get this person off our streets. Don't release him on electronic monitoring because he is a danger not only to this community, but to the city of Chicago at large."

Ricky Vera and Mario Pozuelos, 50 and 26, were shot in the head and body and pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. Mercedes Tavares, 24, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead, police and the medical examiner's office said.
Throwing a birthday party for his daughter, the brother of the bar owner owner gets killed, his daughter is in critical condition and two others are also kolled. The two men were killed execution style. From what I've been told (by a very reliable source) the shooter was known gang affiliated and asked to leave because of it. This was a solid family who contributed a lot to the community.

Every bar owner or barsteward I talk to now is scared of having to toss anyone out for fear of a mass shooting retaliation.

Weekend total: 25 shot, 6 of them killed. Thank goodness for cold weather.

Spent nearly all day on the 9th in lockdown due to a social media threat claiming they were going to shoot up my school. Turned out to be nothing but had to be treated seriously. I am thankful it turned up as nothing but I am hoping they find the responsible party and prosecute them to the full extent.

Above the Law
Yesterday, Alex Jones’s infamous defense lawyer Norm Pattis was suspended from the practice of law for six months after he failed to safeguard the Sandy Hook plaintiffs’ personal records.
...
Connecticut Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis suspended Pattis for his failure to protect the Connecticut plaintiffs’ personal records along with a mountain of other discovery from the case, leading to the infamous confrontation when Texas attorney Mark Bankston revealed to Jones that his lawyer Andino Reynal had sent over the entire contents of Jones’s phone.

Former GOP candidate arrested in shootings at N.M. Democrats’ homes
A former Republican candidate for the New Mexico House was arrested Monday for allegedly orchestrating a series of drive-by shootings targeting Democratic state officials this winter, Albuquerque officials said.

Solomon Pena, who lost the November election to incumbent Rep. Miguel P. Garcia (D), paid four other men to shoot at the homes of two county commissioners and two state legislators, the Albuquerque police acting commander, Kyle Hartsock, said Monday at a news conference.

Five people were involved in the conspiracy, but it is unclear if all of the hired gunmen knew the targets were elected Democrats, according to police. The investigation remains ongoing, Hartsock said, and he wouldn’t specify how many of the suspects have been take into custody. Albuquerque SWAT officers arrested Pena on Monday afternoon.

7 in Half Moon Bay (northern CA) this week too:
A gunman went on a rampage in the quiet coastal town of Half Moon Bay, killing seven farm workers in broad daylight Monday.

San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus and District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe released new details Tuesday morning at a news conference held outside a Redwood City courthouse. They clarified conflicting information and detailed what investigators know so far about the accused gunman, 66-year-old Chunli Zhao, and how the mass shooting happened.

And, in other Darwin award shooting news...
A man died in Kansas on Saturday after, officials believe, he was struck by a rifle that discharged when a dog stepped on it...

The dog stepped on the rifle in the back of the truck, causing it to fire and hit the back of Smith, who was found in the front passenger seat, Hay said.

Man, they are coming too fast this week. Missed a few:
The mayor of Monterey Park, still reeling from the attack in his city, gave his condolences to those grieving in Half Moon Bay. “I know what is in store for them in the next few days,” Mayor Henry Lo said.

Hours after the Half Moon Bay shooting, five people were shot, including an 18-year-old who died, Monday in Oakland, California.

Also on Monday, a man in Des Moines, Iowa, opened fire at a building that houses an educational program for at-risk youth, killing two students and leaving the program’s founder seriously injured, police said.

Then, early Tuesday, a man shot and killed three people at or near a Circle K convenience store in Yakima, Washington, police said.

More information on this (per the teacher's Attorney, so...):
Over the course of a few hours, three different times – three times – school administration was warned by concerned teachers and employees that the boy had a gun on him at the school and was threatening people,” attorney Diane Toscano told reporters during a news conference Wednesday...

... An hour later around 12:30 p.m., another teacher told the administrator she believed the student had put a gun in his pocket and taken it out to recess, Toscano claimed. The administrator allegedly “downplayed” the possibility, Toscano said, responding that the boy had “little pockets.”

Then shortly after 1 p.m., a third teacher told administrators that another child – described by Toscano as “crying and fearful” – had informed the teacher the 6-year-old “showed him the gun at recess and threatened to shoot him if he told anybody.”

A fourth employee then asked the administration for permission to search the boy but was denied, Toscano claimed.

Well that's one teacher that will never have to work again. Not that she would want to if she could. Freaking nuts that in this day and age that's how they respond to someone possibly having a gun? I guess the thinking was that he's 6 and it's not likely?

Happening now:

West Omaha Target store secure; public advised to stay away
Omaha Police said in a tweet at 12:22 p.m. that “officers are clearing the store at this time” and that there were an “unknown number of victims as the investigation is in the early stages.” At 12:52 p.m., the OPD account said the scene was secure but advised the public to avoid the area while they continued their investigation.

FBI personnel were seen checking cars in the parking lot after that.

My youngest daughter (who was present at the Omaha Millard South High School shooting) was on her way to that store but then decided to stop at Wal*Mart instead.

Update on the Omaha incident: Omaha police officers shoot, kill gunman at Target in west Omaha

Seems a guy walked in, started shooting randomly, nobody hit, cops arrive on scene and shot/killed him.
No victims other than the shooter. Which, all things considered, is certainly one of the better options.

There is apparently an active shooter at Michigan State University. There is a public feed up and a friend of mine listening said they called out 2 fatalities. They have apparently been unable to locate the shooter for a good while now.
Shots were fired on a college campus in Michigan on Monday, police said.

Police said on Twitter that shots have been fired "near" a building on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing.
