They are estimating 3 hours of server setup to install the OS, configure out backend control panel, and move the data over. At that point we have to slog through the data restore. I'm thinking it'll be up by dinner time tonight, using a conservative "oh damn it, what now??!" attitude.

Good luck. And if you need to tell us that it will be down for a "short time" - just give it to us straight.

You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?

You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel
How does it feel

Quick Update:

Some of you may have noticed that the site is back up. This is an illusion. This is the old box. We are doing a backup verify before we move everything over to the new box as there were a few errors during the backup process.

Specifically, somehow the  file (a 2k animated gif) was registering on the server as 750 GB. Yea....something isn't quite right there. :)

I was suffering so much GT forum withdrawal that I went back to the unmoderated, sometimes out-of-control Quarter to Three forums to post under my former nom-de-plume. I hadn't posted there in almost a year. :) I finally remembered this place but it took some detective work to find this thread.

I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot her home PC, which went completely beserk when their kitten jumped on the keyboard while her husband was trying to move some spyware to Spy Sweeper's quarantine. I was wondering if something like that had happened to the GT forum machines.

It took OO 73 days. Lets see if GT can beat that record.

I have to say that of all the gaming forums I visit, I never thought GT would have this kind of relatively long downtime. Sure, it's nothing compared to OO's, but when you consider the number of IT professionals who are involved in GT's day to day operations, being off more than a few hours is kind of a shock.

I'm sure they'll be up again very soon, though.

I am sure it won't be down long.

No matter how many technical people are throwing free time at something like a website/forum downtime will happen. Usually much shorter than we experienced but the length GT has been down so far is far from unusual.

Update:

True, it wouldn't take very long to swap a drive. The hitch is that I decided that since we were incurring downtime it'd be a good time to move to a brand new and vastly updated server. That, coupled with pulling backups from a drive that keeps failing has slowed us down a bit. That said, all data is copied over to the new server which is up and running. We are doing account recovery and restoration. (I host several other sites on that server besides GamingTrend) I have two companies working together that will be doing the deployment work throughout the night. Obviously we are over my initial estimate, but work is progressing at a very quick pace. It's actually better that it happens now where I can control the puppet strings than while I'm hip-deep in E3 nonsense.

Thanks for the update Ron.

The only bad thing is that GT is missing the massive excitement of today's Dragon Age reveal!

I have reviews waiting to be posted too. Those are time sensitive. :/ I also have updates for my martial arts school site that need to go up. My students need to print them out to test. It's good timing pre-e3, but its horrible timing at any point :/

Get back to PC only you fools at Bioware!!

Week 3, day 2 went a lot better than 3.1 did. I bumped myself down a tier to the 21-25 pushup range and it was the perfect difficulty for me. I was just able to do the minimum recommendation for the last set.

Also stuck myself on the scale this morning and it looks like I've lost about 3 pounds since we started the challenge.
