One GOP official's prescription for dealing with protests: "Violent protesters who shut down free speech? Time for another Kent State perhaps. One bullet stops a lot of thuggery.”

...because the Kent State massacre really put an end to protests back in the day, huh? And protesters are totally against free speech.

Sheesh.

The protesters “obstructed an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient,” the state police report read, according to the New Haven Independent. “Due to this delay, ambulance personnel were required to perform an emergency medical procedure in the ambulance instead of at the hospital.”

One protester in particular who stood in the ambulance’s path refused to move when asked by police to do so.

That sucks. If Trump understood the constitution and stopped making people protest in order to stop him from destroying our freedoms, then it wouldn't have happened.

Scientist march in the works

I get the sentiment of the article that science should try to remain aloof of politics; but when you one party have using this inaction to their advantage by making shit up and feeding it to their slobbering acolytes, something needs to be done. Simply putting the facts out there is for a more enlightened age, and will not help during the willful ignorance of the Orange goon squad.

One guy has an unexpected health crisis due to protesting in the streets and conservatives and libertarians get their panties in wad and want to start whiting out the parts of the 1st Admendment that they don't like, but millions losing their health care and tens of thousands of people potentially dying and they could care less.

Be honest, Rip, you give zero fucks about the guy in the ambulance or anyone else that isn't you or someone you personally know. Save your fake hand wringing for people who haven't spent years reading your steady stream of sociopathic drivel. You are boring me, man.

There is no 1st amendment right to block ambulances. The cops even gave them a chance to let the ambulance through and the ones who refused were properly arrested.

Save the deeply offended rhetoric for your communist brethren.

And someone who reads alt-news. snopes that recycled shit. Laura Ingraham, Press Secretary contender for Donald Trump, apparently owns the Ingraham Media Group, that runs the site called “LifeZette”.

I did look into this. The snopes article refers to earlier unverified claims, but the LifeZette thing does refer to a police report and actual reporting by the New Haven Independent. The story has been reported in other Massachusetts news outlets.

It actually happened, and that sucks. What also sucks is that the actions of half a dozen jerks will be used to tar literally millions who have protested peacefully and seriously in the weeks since the Inauguration.

In Rip's mind we're already the same, and he's just waiting for the cue to start calling protest "terrorism."

The particulars of this aside, blocking roads and highways as part of a protest is a general thing these days, and I do wonder whether it's wise. I do get that you often need to cause some sort of peaceful disruption in order to get media attention, but among other things I expect situations like this are more or less inevitable with that type of protest.

I can't speak to piece because I didn't read it. I clicked on the link. I saw other inflammatory garbage and I wrote of the site as unreliable narrative no matter how accurate any single piece may be.

That said, as a general rule, I do not agree with any protest as a means to ends that blocks roads and would hold them a sort of illegitimate contempt.

Of which we only have her word for:
The court rejected her claims of torture “for lack of evidence.” Exhibits presented at the trial, which lasted six months and was reportedly attended by an International Red Cross observer, included physical evidence such as bomb making materials found at Odeh’s home.
And she was also convicted of lying on her immigration papers. Not a poster child for the anti-Trump movement.

Please ask him if he read my email about the Betsy DeVos confirmation. K thanks. :P

He seems to be one of the few R's taking a stand against Trump (because his Daddy is, but still...I'll take any R pushing back at least a little at this point)

Just by watching him the past couple of years, I am firmly convinced he has moved from the realm of "I want to move up and become more prominent" to "I just don't give a F anymore...I'll say anything and speak my mind, on or off record. I'm an active participant in a circus, so who really cares?"

We are now completing the third month of the Trumpocalypse.

He’s been compared to every madman, every destructive movement, every consequential thing that’s happened in this universe since the Big Bang. People who never raised an eyebrow or their voice about Ebola or Isis or MS-13 are now concerned about this guy.

Logic tells you this reaction can only be wrong. In the realm of emotional debate, nothing is ever as evil, or as great, as you want it to be. The truth is almost always situated in some realistic middle that’s upsetting to a few and boring to many.
So feel free to hate the guy. That’s OK. The right did that with President Obama. It’s a team sport thing. But it might be as false now as it was then.

For President Trump to fulfill your nightmares, you have to ignore an entire fabric of politically benign living.

The right didn’t trust Obama because he lived a unexamined life of romanced, unchallenged progressivism. He was a card-carrying Leftist.

Trump lived a public life of transparent opinion while navigating the most liberal, cosmopolitan city on earth — ever.

Think about that when you’re losing your crap. Trump was out in the open, for all to see. Unlike most.

So here I offer some soothing reasons why you don’t have to worry … much. Fact is, libs, Trump is more like you than he is like me, or Mike Pence or Mike Huckabee or anyone who turns your ideological stomach.
In American life, and in this ridiculously enduring republic, no one is as great or as bad as you wish them to be. And demonizing them only clouds your ability to reason.

Ultimately, you fail to engage in an argument when it matters. Yes, it happened with Obama — but now, my liberal friends, you’re doing the same with Trump.

Lighten up. Give it time. He’s more you than me.

That's asinine.

There's no real argument there, but the core point seems to be this: "Trump was out in the open, for all to see."

This seems to say that we should revere an obscenely wealthy man for somehow managing to survive in a city designed to give the rich everything they want. Apparently it's hard out there for a white male billionaire in New York.

Thinking about this "openness," though... Keep that point in mind if it is ever revealed that, oh, say, Trump's schemes, wealth, and success turn out to have depended on details that he would rather not have let the rest of us know.
