I really want the visual designers of this show to make an H.P. Lovecraft Innsmouth movie. They could make some terrifying Deep Ones.

Sure, sure. But then it's not really an acid sea. If that's the case, it's magic and the whole 22b ecosystem is magic.

What's notable is that nothing in the story so far has required an acid sea. An acid sea is hugely unrealistic, and none of the characters/threats have experienced it as important (aside from Marcus having to skip to shore for 10 seconds). It feels like bloated world-building.

I don’t think an explanation for the acid ocean that doesn’t fit into our current (and limited) knowledge of what’s possible will necessarily mean it’s just “magic”. Nor does having that aspect of the show (and the worm holes mentioned earlier) explained with anything other than pure hard science effectively render all actions and consequences as meaningless.

Our knowledge of what’s possible is vastly different than someone from even a hundred years ago. The ecosystem on Kepler 22b has obviously been controlled by a race or being that is so far ahead of even the humans from the future as featured on the show as to make them seem like cavemen.

But at the end of the day, the show entertains me with some interesting thoughts on faith, what makes us human, and questions how we can ensure our future when we’re still incapable of forgiving our past.

…and bat shit insane stuff. Lots of bat shit insane stuff. I think I made that quite clear in the very first post.

I'm with you. I love that we're getting a major SF series that deals with themes of faith and existentialism (even if none of those issues have gone beyond defining which believers have what powers).

But, seriously, nobody is standing around breathing Earth-like atmosphere if the nearby ocean melts your Space Shuttle.

If the show was called Waterworld: the Series, I might be bothered by it more.

Sigh….now I want Waterworld: the Series.

Okay, so we have an answer as to who and what is causing people to devolve. It’s not what I expected.

Also, the alien tree video may be one of the more horrific things I’ve seen in a while.

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm guessing...Frank Stallone.

What I like is that RbW will throw these absurdly weird puzzles at us (the devolving humans of Keppler 22b, for example), then eventually provide us with a down to earth (so to speak) answer that makes sense.

I also think the symbolic nature of heaven and hell is becoming more and more pronounced. With Mother representing the heavenly aspect (her domain is the sky...which she travels while striking a pose that resembles a symbol of the church) and the Entity as hellish (its "lair" is underground, as we've learned). I see Campion as A reluctant Christ in some ways, while Father represents humanity watching these celestial forces warring while he and his children suffer the consequences.

But what the F is going on with Marcus now? I need answers, damn it!

Just finished the final episode of S2. I didn't think it would be possible, but I believe I enjoyed S2 more than S1.

While I’m incredibly annoyed it’s gone, I’m still surprised we got two seasons of this. It really did feel like a throwback to the glory days of 70s science fiction films in which imagination and originality were the driving forces. I mean, even describing this show to someone, I have to frequently shake my head in disbelief at the things they did.

I would love for it to reappear somewhere else just to end the story, but I suspect the very things we loved about this show will make it a hard sell to anyone else. :(

p.s. this guy throws out some interesting theories and points out some details I didn’t really think were that important at the time…but now realize they may very well be. It’s sad to hear him mention season 3 during his discussion though.

One more season would have been nice to wrap things up. The show was a perfect combination of thought provoking science fiction and crazypants insanity. Plot developments were really starting to advance too with the second season. :grund:

Maybe we can convince Smoove to put aside his work on fan fiction scripts for a reboot of Misfits of Science long enough to give us a proper ending to RbW?

It sounds like they have a good chance of coming back on another service if they can get enough fan support and show some momentum. Although without a surge like Manifest got from being shown on Netflix, I don’t know if it will be enough. Petition isn’t showing a lot of strength so far…
