You have to dole them out to your various museums. So I don't believe you get anything for extra treaties other than a queue you can draw on in case you need it (player quits, new musemu, etc).

55 swordsmen + cook vs 28 slingers with 5% defense bonus from wall:

4 swordsmen died...21 slingers died...

Hardly seems right...things seem to get wierd with larger battles...like i know 1 of my swordsmen alone against 10 slingers...the swordsman will kill 3-4 slingers...then die..

Pretty odd how larger battles work. Seems to have an interesting system under the hood which makes the battles a little more realistic...as in 2000 units don't meet 1000 units and instantly slay them all for little loss...(like some other gameforge games such as ogame).

An issue with cultural treaties: I have 3 treaties and only 2 museums. When I go to redistribute the points I can put a point in each of my 2 museums, but when I click confirm changes I get an error: "You have to distribute all cultural goods!" Well I don't have enough for all three, so I can't change anything until I get another museum built. Did that make sense?

i created my alliance on the beta servr and have pending apps, i can't accept them as I don't have any more diplomacy points. Do I need to upgrade again to get more points and accept applicants? Pretty stupid, you let me create an alliance but then can't add anyone too it LOL. Well I'm upgrading it now anyway.

It's not stupid....it limits the size of alliances which is good...it's an attempt to prevent zergs.

You have to transfer your diplomatic points to the guild in order to invite people...including right at the start...use the transfer diplomatic points option on your embassy page.

Hey Fuzz - I applied to the guild - just wanted to be sure you go it. :)

Also have room for 1 more museum culture swap if anyone needs one. You can upgrade your museums to use more than 1.

Blockades take way too long in this game. It would take 4 hrs 20 misn to transport to a guy, but nearly 11 hours to blockade him. In 4 hrs I can catch him somewhat unprepared. In 11 hours he could run around searching for sulfur and whatever he needs, upgrade whatever buildings he needs, and build as many ships as he wants.

Heh. The non-donor I attacked apparently didn't realize he was out of his league. After I drained all his resources, he sent 5 slingers to attack my capitol - where the 40 swordsmen and 10 phalanxes (both upgraded attack and defense) I had attacked him with were stationed. He also tried to blockade me with a single ram ship vs my 8 ballista ships.

i love it, i've got 4 cities to farm for wood and wine :P 2 on my next door island and 2 on my own island. The two on my island i think 1 is going to go inactive and the other just isn't bothering to counter attack (yet). Tho in the event he does he won't get much as my resources get consumed quickly and I'm constantly upgrading my warehouse. Haha!

I'm only stockpiling atm so I can upgrade my palace and then build my 3rd colony.

update: now attack all 4 towns again with on phalanx now that I wiped out their forces. And sent 2 of my remaining men to a new town to attack, my men are a bunch of alcos and they need their booze!

I might when i finish taking all the resources from his second city on the island...he put two cities on the one glass island...actually two people did that on the same island...pretty odd IMHO...guess they figure they can do a lot of trading...but neither of the two people have donated jack to the islands resources which is WIERD....who would put two cities on one island and not donate anything to the resources? I mean they get double benefit from it!

PM exchange with alpha server GO regarding 500 random crystal i received from God knows who....
Message to BabyFirefly, on 02-26-2008 19:04
RE: Someone sent me 500 crystal out of the blue...can't tell who

Thanks for the response, BabyFirefly.

I submitted a ticket and response i got was no action rquired on my part since it was the first time and probably an accident on someone's part but to notify immediately if it happens again. Hope that's cool.

I'll let my guild know to make sure and watch close their logs..kinda scary how easy that can be missed...

If you hadn't have noticed it and notified me you'd probably have gotten banned for pushing along with the guy who sent it.

but that doesn't matter because you DID notify. Smile So here's what you need to do..

submit a ticket to the proper server here: http://ikariam.oticket.org and ask them where to send it.. they'll give you the coordinates of their town and you'll be fine.

If it happened on Alpha or Beta let me know and you can just send it to me without submitting a ticket.

Thanks for your honesty. Smile

As the subject says, someone just sent me 500 crystal out of the blue.

My account is: Fuzzina and they sent it to my city Marble Slab on Schiluios[57:48].

I can't tell from the log who sent ita nd i'm concerned someone may be trying to get me banned for pushing. This wasn't part of an agreed on trade.

What do i do in this situation and what would happen if i hadn't noticed this by accident?

Hey Fuzz I sent a request to join the alliance last weekend. The log says the request was sent to Cortilian. I know theres a backlog but since I hadnt heard anything I wanted to make sure the application went to the correct place.

edit to add: I finally have access to the Harkonis forums, could only view the beta / gamma trade area previously. Im assuming that Cortilian is Minister of Interior which answers my question.

God knows who and so do I. It was me! See page 4 of the trade thread. You said you had 1100 sulphur and I said I sent you 500 crystal for the same amount of sulphur. You said "deal" in the post right below that. They really need to fix the problem of not knowing who is sending you stuff!

Elmo, you sent the crystal to Fuzzyville...i sent you 500 sulfur in exchange...log should show it arriving about the same time (just after) you delivered 500 crystal to me....

several hours after your crystal arrived at Fuzzyville 500 crystal arrived at Marble Slab and that is the unaccounted for crystal...

Marble Slab 26.02.2008 4:27 A trade fleet from has arrived in and brought: * Crystal glass: 500

Fuzzyville 26.02.2008 3:15 Your trade fleet from has arrived in Trantor and unloaded.

Fuzzyville 26.02.2008 3:09 A trade fleet from has arrived in and brought: * Crystal glass: 500
You didn't send both of those did you? i wasn't expecting 1000 crystal...and it came to an alternate town...?

edit...on second thought...now i'm really thinkin you maybe sent both of t hose....speak up if you did!

That's why "pushing" is such a stupid-ass rule. It's waaaaaaaaay too easy to exploit to get people banned.

Just keep a good eye on your town log:) And if you do get banned for pushing..open a ticket...figure out why and what you can do about it. It won't be permanent...

The ticket system really is nice...it took me about 30 minutes to get the email with the ticket info but then i could login and see and manage my tickets...very nice system and GO response only took less than an hour via the submitted ticket.

Sorry for confusing the issue. Missed the part where you said Marble Slab. I only sent 500 to Fuzzyville:

Trantor 26.02.2008 3:09 Your trade fleet from has arrived in Fuzzyville and unloaded.

I can't imagine them banning anyone at this point just for receiving an errant shipment. It's way to hard to keep track of trades in this game.

Nevertheless, to be safe, we should watch our town logs closely, thanks for the response elmo...

Fricking wierd that just over an hour after i got yours i got a random shipment to another town of the same amount.

Nevertheless...the result of the ticket was that I got to keep it, this time, but if it happens again i'm sure they'll require i ship it to a GO town...

Place a ticket if you find that you receive a random shipment you didn't expect and don't know who sent it.

Another good reason to be using the http://www.harkonis.com forum for trading, it's getting very confusing to keep track of all the trades on two different servers in the single OO thread.

Will *finally* have my first embassy up in about 2 hours. Then I'll want to be joining OOL. To whom and via what medium do I need to send my request?

Finally broke top-500 in the high score list. :)

What in the hell is "pushing" and why is it a "bannable" offense??

I'll be honest, there is no way in hell that I'm going to study that grossly ineffiecient log to determine if I get something that I didn't order. If anyone sends something and I don't send "my end of the bargin", then send me a friendly reminder.

I'm also playing on Gamma just for the hell of it. I've already had folks accuse me of not living up to a trade, and I had to copy'n'paste my town log to show that I at least had a boat go to their town during the time period when the trade was occuring. I predict chaos... soon!! As soon as competition heats up folks WILL resort to exploits and such. I wouldn't get "too" attached to your empire...LOL.

Per my discussion with the alpha server GO, folks who send the materials in attempt to push someone and get them in trouble will get banned themselves....

And they will fix this bug that doesn't tell us where they came from...so we can just report the buggers and send the res to wherever the GO tells us.

It's actually the folks that try to push to get someone high level banned that will get in trouble themselves and not the high level player...as long as we pay attention to the log and open a ticket if someone starts pushing us...

If you choose to ignore it, can't help ya there...that's just shooting yourself in the foot. The GOs are very friendly and intelligent folks. After conversations with two of em..I trust them a lot to do right and not just ban folks permanently...

The pushing rule is VERY NECCESSARY...as LOTS of folks would otherwise create multiple towns and push resources to themselves. Multi accounts are already enough of a problem with folks that are good at proxy use...this prevents it from becoming overwhelming though, hopefully.

Just had by far my biggest battle.

Defending town had:
30 slingers
15 swordsmen
5 phalanx
4 ram ships

I attacked with:
5 slingers
17 swordsmen
7 phalanx
1 battering ram
3 archers
10 ballista
2 ram ships

Battle went *5* rounds. I won :). Didn't get too many resources, almost 300 gold, 200 marble, 350 wood, etc. Sending troops from my other towns now. Still, I'm sure this battle cost me more than I made, but it was fun :).

i've yet to be attacked, i seem to be doing the attacking. tho there is one guy i was farming that seems to be alive now, as i sent one phalanx and it died to his 19 slingers. so he has obviously been busy since my last attack. So now I'm amassing some swordsmen and phalanx to send back. To keep the game interesting hopefully I can get a war going :P

I want him to attack me and either lose or win but then get no loot coz its either 1) all used up by me 2) locked away in my warehouse coz I keep upgrading it! haha would be satisfying :)

How many phalanx or swordsmen you need to defeat about 19 slingers?

You'll have to forgive my abruptness. I'm a software engineer, and I've dealt with this kind of thing professionally for 25 years... and it PISSES ME OFF!

Obviously this development team is familiar enough with the problem of "pushing" that they've implemented a meta-solution, using IP addresses to find people abusing multiple accounts, and they've implemented a rule-based solution, the banning. The issue is compounded by the bug/deficiency in the logging system. FIXING THE LOGGING SYSTEM DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM! Proper logging only helps the player detect the problem easier.

There are several potential solutions that don't involve the unwitting banning of your customers, and don't put undue burden on those customers. Off the top of my head:

-- Don't allow gifting of resource
This is the complicated solution, but if the problem is so widespread and game damaging then they should take the time to code something. In this case all trades will be established and confirmed before the resources are shipped. This would also solve the problem of "I sent you the stuff, but you didn't send yours". The GMs could impose a minimum ratio for a fair trade. The same could be done to prevent exploitation of the trading post system.

-- Warn players when resources have been gifted
Simply have player confirm gifted resources when they arrive. Warn the player when accepting a gift would put them into risk of GM action. This system would be the same one that would alert GMs of potential abuses.

There are other solutions, and maybe we'll see something other "watch your logs". This is a fun little game, but if I get banned I'll likely not take the time to protest... I'll just move on. I imagine that I'm not alone in this.

Of course people can set up a trade and not complete thier end. Then they can accuse you of pushing on them to force a ban...etc The various ways the pushing rule can be abused is quite messy. People can be very creative when abusing a rule that is controlled by humans. I agree with RLMullen, they need a software solution for the problem.

Is this game a solo friendly one? Or do you have to be a part of large alliance to get anywhere endgame?

Same thing for ogame if anyone is playing that? I just started on Universe 36 and so far it is pretty slow, but I think I like it :)

I would say yes and no to being solo friendly...

You could play it solo and do well if you make friends with those around you and thats entirely possible due to the mechanics of shared island resources.

However, you will likely do significantly better in the end with the protection a guild offers militarily and politically...to a great extend just in it's "fear factor".

People don't usually go after guild members when there are solo players around to raid.

Folks, if you're intending to join the OO alliance on alpha ikariam and havn't yet joined the www.harkonis.com forum...then please do so now.

We're getting very active in our posting there now that like 30 people have signed up and alliance decisions are starting to be made there etc...

Also i have a waiting list up for folks who have sent in appliactions to join the alliance so far.

My 4th town is up so embassies will be getting built and upgraded today...i'm estimating 9 invites within 24 hours max.

I am getting a little bored with the game. Everything takes hours to build and massive amounts of resources now. I can't attack too many people at once because I can't piss off everyone, but those I have attacked don't even defend. I have never seen any kind of resistance in any of my battles. Just pillaged a level 8 city with about 25 units and they didn't even have a slingman defending as far as I could tell. And since you can never take over a city, I kind of wonder what the point of the game is.
