I suspect this is yet another one of those East Coast vs. West Coast taste things, like a lot of others. Also maybe like mealy nasty Dunkin' Cakenuts vs proper Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
Edit: now with images!
(not sure why all that stuff other than the image is on there, sorry! I hit "copy image address" like I normally do)

Can you add an option for people who have tried them, but who'd rather have their teeth extracted like in Marathon Man instead of eat either of these vile, putrid, disgusting options?

No.
Next question!
I will say that I find Red Vines to be disgusting. The texture I guess. And while I recognize that Twizzlers are waxy, chemical soups of cancer, they are a guilty pleasure for me. I know they're trash food....but that is not this question.

+1 Waxy failed almost strawberry flavoring... *shudder*

To your point, at least for Twizzlers, I've always found it hilarious how hard they failed on the "strawberry" flavor, or lack thereof. But again, I'm ok with that...I like they flavor they have, and when I tried their take on cherry, went straight back to the OG "strawberry".

Welp, you've done it OO. You've found something even Daehawk won't eat. And I've seen him finish an old can of pickled herring he found in a carnie's discarded backpack.

Never heard of Redvines. We only have Twizzlers here.

Twizzlers are only fit for old ladies to suck on and smack co-workers in the ass with. Because in the 80s grocery store, ladies could get away with sexual harassment of teenage boys and co-workers.
True story why licorice is unfit for adult consumption.
I have a similar story why I can’t drink vodka.

None of the above. Ick.
Licorice, on the other hand, is one of my favorite candies.
And a double-smack on anyone who calls it 'red licorice.' Licorice is a flavor (or the plant it originally came from), not a shape.

I'd avoid the second bit, but I do love some good pickled herring. Which is, sadly, hard to find. Wine herring (which is tolerable) and sour cream herring (which is not) are both all over, but actual pickled herring? Nowhere.
And yes, I also enjoy extra strong stinky cheeses.

I'll see your "sour cream herring" and raise you "milk steak".

Amen. This is the correct answer. Also, speaking as a Brit, this is how the fine produce of Bertie Bassett is correctly spelled…

I too shall submit a write-in ballot for real licorice, especially in the form of Allsorts.
It still tastes good chewed. Although most licorice today is actually anise flavored.

I've had, and enjoyed, double- and triple-salt Dutch licorice. It's definitely an acquired taste.

AKA fennel. I have a few good recipes that use fennel or fennel seeds. I don't have a strong opinion on licorice candy but I do like anise/fennel in food.

Different plants that both happen to taste a lot like licorice. The flavor in anise is much stronger.

I did not know that. My supermarket sells fennel and calls it anise.
Also, good job everyone for not saying "anise tastes like ass".

You would love my neighborhood. We have the original Hagen's Fish Market, and they have multiple varieties of both canned and fresh pickled herring. Hagen's Fish Market
Then at the Mariano's grocery store, down at the end of my block, they have just put in a free-standing 4 sided display filled with all kinds of varieties of canned fish. So, I kind of live in pickled herring central.
(And red vines and twizzlers are both disgusting.)

The good news is the neither of these has anything whatsoever to do with licorice.

Mariano's on Elston? That's where I shop! (I can also walk to Hagen's when I want fish).

Yeah! It's right at the end of my street. I'm surprised I haven't run into you there. I'm walking down there seems like at least once a day.

Twizzlers are so horrible. Those go straight to the garbage during halloween. We also raise our kids right and refuse to let them eat them due to their nastiness.
