Sounds like me only I'm surprised I only played 15 different games this year and 2 new ones. Getting old. I'm also spending more time on BGA.

Mine is really funny because I pretty much exclusively played Fortnite this year (the launcher says I have 1200+ hours, but it doesn't break it out by year so that's 18 months worth of play instead of 12).

No big surprises this year. I've actually games considerably less than usual (although I've put a ton of hours into Diablo 4 now, which doesn't show on Steam.)



For the genre breakdown... they seem to be pulling from Steam tags, which are a horribly, humorously broken system (remember, Dark Souls 3 is a dating sim!) My guess is that they're looking at the tags based on the number of games you've played at all. That explains why Warhammer 40k is on there when I only barely touched one 40k game (18 hours in Darktide.) It turns out that the Warhammer: Total War series are also tagged as 40k games (they are not.) The 'Dark Comedy' is Fallout 76 and Ctrl-Alt-Ego (which I only launched once, and haven't played.) 'Tanks' was because I played both Tank Mechanic Simulator and about five minutes of Battlezone '98.

1612 sessions, but many of those were just logging into Gems of War to collect tribute.

My guess would be that Steam is actually tracking how long the game's launcher is running rather than the game itself. If the REDlauncher shuts down after starting the game, then Steam would be logging a relatively small playtime. If that's the case, I'd expect that you are also not seeing any Steam achievements for the game as well.

It's hard to tell. Steam says I've played 83 hours, knows I've played in the last 2 weeks, and shows 9/57 achievements listed but I also played last year and I have no idea if I was using the launcher last year. I don't think so which means it is likely that those are last year's stats.

Confirmed - it hasn't been tracking time or achievements since I reinstalled for the 2.0 update and PL. It does track whether or not I have played in the last two weeks so you are totally correct that it is tracking the launcher. Unimportant really but nice to confirm.
